What I liked

I enjoyed working in a team and having an opportunity to grow within the business. I have moved from being a cashier to an electronics specialist in under two years. As an electronics specialist, I have the pleasure of assisting guests in making decisions in relation to identifying which products will benefit them the most.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have begun training within the tech department earlier in the year. I was given the opportunity to learn through experience, but only recently have I learned that training offered by the business can fill in the knowledge gaps.

Advice

Take advantage of your resources provided to you by the business. The business and the employee must have a working relationship where both parties invest in one another.

Being able to take time off from home— currently we have to go to the store in order to put in time-off requests.

Grocery Stocker

June - July 2019 • Chico, CA

What I liked

I had great co-workers, the job was simple, customers were nice.

What I wish was different

I had to find another job as they docked our department hours, I went from having an average 30 hour work week to an 12-8 hour work week. I had to quit to find a job that gave more hours. The management gave out too many hours and then cut back departments that were not in "High demand".

Advice

If you start noticing a drop in your hours for no reason, bring it up immediately. Others that have worked there for years have said the hour cuts happen o almost a yearly basis. Only cashiers don't get hour cut.

Executive Team Leader

June - August 2019 • Levittown, NY

What I liked

I loved how the internship program was extensive and well thought out. Everyday I had different objectives that I was expected to meet and I learned about all the different departments in the store. Each week I had a meeting with my mentor and my Store Director and they provided me with feedback on what I did right and what I needed to work on. I felt that Target was really invested in me and my development.

What I wish was different

Since we only had 10 weeks and so much to learn, I would move departments very quickly which was a hard adjustment. However, I got used to moving around and it helped me be comfortable throwing myself into new projects.

Advice

Ask questions, and ask for help. Everyone is there to help you and want to watch you succeed. Also take time and really get to know the team members because when you start to actually lead a team they will respect you.

Cashier

September 2017 • New Berlin, WI

What I liked

I enjoy working at a place that I love. I get to help people locate items that I too may be interested in, so it's easier for me to inform them on the items.

What I wish was different

I wish that I was able to learn more departments so that I was able to work in other areas to help more guests that have questions about certain items.

Advice

Make yourself noticed by all the store leads. This can help get your name around the store to allow for you to possibly get to work in other departments, as well as become a trustworthy employee. Be as friendly as you can because that only can make your day better as well as others day's better.
