I loved that this internship was unique in that it allowed interns to experience two business lines; which in my case was tax and audit and assurance. With this amazing opportunity I was given, I can confidently say that I will enjoy my future working in the tax practice. The Deloitte professionals I met during my internship also contributed to my positive experience immensely as they were very encouraging and supportive throughout my time there.

Tax Accounting Intern
June - August 2019 • Boston, MA
What I liked
From a responsibility standpoint, I enjoyed researching state tax issues and completing compliance work for clients. I had taken a few tax courses in the Whitman school and I believe these experiences helped me with my assignments in an efficient fashion. I also enjoyed how much time my coworkers spent training me and exposing me to as much tax information as possible in my ten-week internship. I was constantly learning new things and this helped me confirm that I wanted to pursue tax as a full-time career.
What I wish was different
I wish that I had received feedback on my work but understand that this can be challenging when business is busy. I appreciated the feedback that I received but I am always looking for more information.
Advice
Always carry a pen and notebook with you. You never know when you will have a question, hear something interesting, or get pulled into a conference call with a client. Taking notes can help solidify new concepts and can be used for reference when completing a task for one of your coworkers.

Financial Auditor
August 2018 • San Jose, CA
What I liked
Deloitte is a great place to start your career. The work is challenging and there is a steep learning curve, but everyone is invested in your success.
What I wish was different
Be proactive in your job search as soon as possible. There is a strict timeline for recruitment in Public Accounting. The earlier you can get exposed to accounting firms the better. I recommend joining as many accounting clubs as you can (while keeping your GPA stable) and attend the events that they host. Accounting clubs will serve as the main pipeline for students looking to work in Public Accounting.
Advice
GPA is important for the Big 4, but it is not the only factor. Being able to network effectively, and standing out with extracurriculars (jobs, clubs, volunteering) are equally important in securing an interview.
