Deloitte

Human Capital Analyst

June - August 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Thought it was a great place to learn and meet a ton of new people. Great events and initiatives for younger team members.

What I wish was different

The project and actual work was a bit dry as it was in a fairly obscure city and most of the team was ready to be done with the project.

Advice

Do your research before applying. If I would’ve been passionate about the work, I think I really would’ve enjoyed it.

Intern

May - June 2017 • Beijing, China

What I liked

Deloitte has very fast paced and task oriented works. Although I was Ann intern, I felt like a full time employee. I learned a lot of consulting skills.

What I wish was different

I wish that Deloitte keeps the outstanding interns in contact. Deloitte has it’s appraisal form, but I think that it only assess the intern’s performance; I wish it has a section for the supervisor to fill out if he or she wants the intern works again for Deloitte (or any question that has such indication).

Advice

Be ready to work overtime the first day at work.

Federal Strategy & Operations Summer Scholar

June - August 2017 • Arlington County, VA

What I liked

I had a great opportunity to network with lots of different people with a vast variety of background and in different positions. I also had a chance to travel abroad for a development project.

What I wish was different

My experience was different because I was on a team with 2 other interns, but I wish I had an opportunity to take more stake in substantive and impactful work.

Advice

It is key to take initiative in your learning process and finding a way to channel your interests.

Audit CTB Intern

June - July 2017 • Dublin, Ireland

What I liked

During my internship I was exposed to many of the facets of the day-to-day life as an auditor in a Big Four firm. In class, we learn about accounting laws and concepts, and at work is when they actually get to apply them. I did my internship outside of the U.S., but accounting is quite universal. The people I worked with were very friendly and helpful and wanted to help me learn as a business professional while also learning to get a grasp of the job.

What I wish was different

I wish it was longer! My internship was six weeks, but I wish it could have been 8-10 weeks instead.

Advice

Go into it with a positive attitude and willingness to learn, and also gain as much information that you can to help you decide if this is what you'd like to do in the future (while building connections with others on the job).

Tax Consultant for Hedge Funds

June - August 2016 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

What I liked most about the internship was that I was treated more like a first-year staff member rather than as an intern. As a result, I was able to gain valuable and relevant work experience through the projects I worked. Furthermore, I really enjoyed having an extensive support group throughout the course of the internship. I had a "go-to" person at each level (staff, senior, manager, senior manager). Finally, Deloitte implemented an "Internship Passport Program," which allowed interns to work on projects outside of their assigned industry groups. While I worked primarily with clients in the financial services industry, I was also able to gain some exposure to companies in other industries as well.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship would have been a little longer. I felt that the 10-week period gave me good experience but I feel that I would have learned exponentially more had I been given the opportunity to intern throughout the entire summer.

Advice

Never say no to an opportunity. As an intern, you are in a position to learn, so you should always accept any type of help that is asked of you. You never know if a new opportunity or project could spark a new professional interest.

Audit Intern

January - March 2017 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

Everyone at the firm was fantastic to work with. As an intern at Deloitte, you are treated as a full-time employee. Even during busy season, everyone is helpful and takes the time to answer any questions you have. You receive a lot of feedback throughout your internship to help keep you informed on your progress and what you can do differently.

What I wish was different

The only thing that I wish was different was the opportunity to work more overtime. I felt like there was a lot of work to be done for my engagements, but I wasn't always as busy as I thought I would be.

Advice

Ask questions! Be very engaged and personable from the time you interview to the end of your internship. Ask for feedback and what you could improve upon. However, make sure to find the balance between asking too many questions and staying curious.

Audit Intern

January - March 2017 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

Great learning experience, with some of the best auditors in the area! I loved the opportunities I had to apply what I have been learning in class to real-world scenarios. It was an environment that pushed me to learn new things and allowed me the opportunity to see what the "busy season" is like in an audit firm.

What I wish was different

I wish I wouldn't have been so nervous leading up to the internship. Being that Deloitte is one of the "Big Four", I was very nervous about making a good impression; however, the people at Deloitte really made me feel comfortable once I was there, and they were very open about helping and teaching me. I also realized very early in the internship that I could comfortably just be myself and get along great with everyone there. There really was nothing to be nervous about.

Advice

Being proficient in excel will really help you to shine in this internship! Also, don't be afraid to be yourself, and look for every opportunity you can to network and connect with others.

ERS - IT Specialist Intern

May - August 2017 • Panama City, Panama City

What I liked

I loved the work environment and the Deloitte culture. Everyone is very willing to help you and pass on their knowledge. Deloitte promotes work unity and had almost weekly activities for their employees to share together. They also are big in training their employees and giving them courses in important and current topics.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been there longer to learn all the procedures and be able to interview clients alone.

Advice

Be like a sponge, always willing to learn and help. Sometimes the people who already work there are too busy to tell interns or new hires how to do stuff. Stick to them, learn by watching, ask lots of questions. Don't be afraid to make mistakes; that's how you learn.

Tax management consulting intern

July 2012 - November 2014 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I feel that my team gave me an excellent introduction to how various tasks in management consulting work, especially in the realm of technology. I got to work on a wide variety of projects, such as process improvement, enterprise software implementation, custom development, business intelligence/analytics, and business requirement gathering and analysis. Senior members of our team always supported me and encouraged me to seek out opportunities that would enhance my understanding of our group's function and abilities. I was also able to learn a lot through self-directed training and prototyping.

What I wish was different

I wish I had the opportunity to work on more extensive or complicated business analytics projects. However, many companies did not need the kind of advanced algorithms I had in mind.

Advice

Most importantly, don't be afraid to ask questions! Senior members of your team understand that you're new, and they'd rather have you get a better understanding of a process rather than get confused, make mistakes or invalid assumptions, and not tell them about it.

January - March 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I loved the people. It sounds cliche but Deloitte really does have some amazing people working at the firm and every team I was a part of was excellent.

What I wish was different

I wish that I would have had the opportunity to work in a different area of the firm, it was personal preference but after working in consulting elsewhere I would have loved to learn more about Deloitte Consulting while I was there.

Advice

Just try your best, always. Deloitte has thousands of employees and interns, if you want to stand out you have to be willing to not only put in a lot of time but a lot of quality time into your work.
