What I liked

I enjoyed working on real-world projects that would be used to create helpful changes to the company's E-commerce website.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more programming involved in the projects I was working on.

Advice

The best piece of advice I would share is to always stay busy. Any experience is good experience so try to make the most out of your internship.

Clinical Research, Poultry Intern

May - August 2022 • Kalamazoo, MI

What I liked

I was actually contributing to the team and given tasks that made significant impacts on the projects we were working on. The team was very supportive and made sure to teach me everything I needed to know. I was able to shadow other departments and teams within the company as well to see how my work compares or impacts theirs.

What I wish was different

I wanted a little more housing support because I was moving from so far away and was not used to staying off-campus. Additionally, I wanted a few more intern events to connect with my peers at the company.

Advice

Work hard, but do not be afraid to ask for help! An internship is a time to learn what a career in that field would be like. Reach out to your team to talk, learn plenty of skills, and even talk to people outside of your team. This is a time to experience and learn things that you can't get from school.

EHS Intern

May - August 2022 • Kalamazoo, MI

What I liked

Everyone at Zoetis was extremely welcoming and excited to work with interns, and truly wanted them to succeed. Everyone was happy to involve in their projects, and I always felt a valued member of the team.

What I wish was different

Onboarding was a bit jaring, as there was so much initial training to do and gaining clearance to access necessary company documents was frustrating, but these are things most likely faced by every company.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions and ask to get involved in different areas of the company!

Formulation Development Intern

May - August 2021 • Kalamazoo, MI

What I liked

A great, friendly work environment. The people there were very supportive of the interns and wanted us to succeed.

What I wish was different

My project was not well-planned - some instability in the team I joined meant my project was not easily achievable.

Advice

Be proactive in your internships to make the most of the limited time.

Mechanical Engineering Intern

May 2019 • Kalamazoo, MI

What I liked

The company is a big company with a small company/family feel to it. Everyone seems to get along well and that makes it enjoyable to go to work and also makes it a lot easier to accomplish your tasks by working together.

What I wish was different

I wish that I was given more projects to do. There were days where I did not have much to do and I would have rather had too much to do than not enough.

Advice

Do not be afraid to ask questions. You are there to learn and your employer wants to teach you and wants you to do things right.

Mechanical Engineering Intern

May 2019 • Kalamazoo, MI

What I liked

All of my coworkers were very friendly and were great about helping me when I would ask questions. It was also great to get the feel for a professional environment and to see what an average day at work looks like for a mechanical engineer.

What I wish was different

I was placed in a building that did not have any other engineers, so at times it was difficult to get help because the people around me were not engineers.

Advice

When there is a lull in your schedule, do not be afraid to speak up and ask your boss for more projects. It shows great initiative and in the end is better for you because it gets you more experience as well.

Marketing Intern

June - August 2019 • Parsippany-Troy Hills, NJ

What I liked

My experience and the relationship I developed with my coworkers was the best part of my internship. They were welcoming, friendly and willing to teach me as much as they could.

What I wish was different

I wish there was a little more structure to the internship program to avoid any downtime while on the job. There were times when I finished my projects and ran out of things to do until I met with my superiors.

Advice

Take advantage of any professional connections that can be made, and be sure to maintain them. You never know what opportunities may arise.
