I wish it had been in person and maybe having more social events to interact with more people in the company or having a personal mentor.

Advice

I would say to apply to any opportunity you have the chance to, you never know what valuable experience it can lead to and worst scenario is they say no.

What I liked

Gaining experience in multiple aspects of civil engineering, on the same projects, and seeing how each piece fits together.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to see a project from start to finish to really understand the process from beginning to end.

Talk to everyone. Every person in an office has experience and their own advice to share but you’ve gotta make the effort to talk to them beyond the initial introduction.

Electrical Engineering Intern

May 2018 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

I am gaining real-world experience related to my field, as well experience related to the corporate work force in general. I work in the transportation department of the company. We've taken a few field trips to better relate the design work that we do in the office with what actually gets constructed. Also, I am surrounded by a diverse set of people and that's something I really enjoy.

What I wish was different

I wish I didn't have to take classes and work! It was a challenge, but it all worked out in the end.

Advice

Just keep applying to jobs, even if you're unsure about them! For this position, specifically, I didn't even see the posting. But, I was putting in several applications a day, and someone emailed my resume to the person who is now my supervisor.
