I wish the internship had been in Milwaukee instead of Madison.

What I liked
I love the versatility of the job, and being entrusted with responsibility. People would seek me out for my skill set and reliability. This was an honor, especially being only at the intern level. I have learned so much about the workings of the government and the amazing things they do every day. In our current climate people tend to villainize the government, but the Bureau of Children's Services is full of passionate people who get stuff done!
What I wish was different
I wish the workload was more consistent. Some days I had minimal work to do and other days I had to work through lunch. But this also comes with the territory of irregular schedules.
Advice
Don't be afraid to ask questions about projects or the people around you. Everyone comes from a different career background and as a person starting off in the workforce, it is fascinating to hear about what people have done and how they got to where they are now. Plus, you get to know your co-workers more!
