What I liked about interning at Roseville was that it had a department that was friendly and caring. The officers and the other staffs will always include you in things and make sure you are getting a great experience as an intern. I enjoyed the events that was hosted by the RPD for example as an intern you would not expect to be playing kickball with other officers and the high schoolers, but you actually do. I was surprised when that happened and found it enjoyable. If you are looking for an awesome internship you should try Roseville out and you will get a lot of help like I did.
What I wish was different
I honestly don't know what could of have been different because I enjoyed my internship but, can say that it was more focused on the interns becoming police officers or community service officers. In which I did not mind because I was thinking of becoming one.
Advice
One piece of advice I would give is take a leap of faith and try the police internship program out and see if you like the police work. This internship gave me a lot of insights on if I wanted to become a police officer or not.

What I liked
I love how progressive RPD is with their policing policies. They do a lot with community outreach and holistic approaches to policing. The work environment is so healthy and positive. I never felt out of place and my experience and perspective were always respected and sought out, even though I was an intern. I loved working here so much I applied for the open analyst role and am starting it this week. They do a lot of promoting from within and the pay and benefits are incredibly competitive. If you're looking for an internship program that leads to a career this is the place!
What I wish was different
Personally, I wish the intern program wasn't as focused on the career goals of the students they hire. They give priority to students who want to become officers/CSOs with the department, which makes perfect sense, but for someone who wasn't sure that was something they wanted to do it made the program more difficult to get in to.
Advice
This was a life-changing experience. My supervisor and the other staff members supported me in my career goals however I needed it. I developed direction and confidence in my professional life, and I am so grateful for it. My advice is even if you're not sure you want to be a police officer or work in law enforcement--APPLY ANYWAY! It's worth it. This program will open your mind and eyes to a massive field with limitless potential.
