What I liked
When I volunteer at Parkland, I feel like I am truly making a difference. Everyone I meet there loves being there, and they shine a light in the darkness of the lives that pass through their doors. Working at Parkland is not an easy job, but I love the system, and I love the passion that drives Parkland to be so successful.
What I wish was different
If I could change anything after volunteering at Parkland, I would probably just say that it is sometimes hard to find ways to help because the employees are unsure of the exact responsibilities volunteers can take.
Advice
I would give the advice to just smile and be talkative. The people that come through Parkland are struggling more often than not, and I can say first-hand that my smile has brightened so many days. Even if I was unable to help physically, a smile makes more magic than anything else.

What I liked
I loved that I was able to work as a peer with the doctors, nurses, and staff who had the training and experience I am hoping to one day achieve. Being treated like an equal made me feel confident as I continue on a sometimes overwhelming path to become a physician.

Advice
Don’t be afraid to ask to go see or do something. People want you to learn in a hospital setting but can often get very busy and forgetful. If you hear about something cool, tag along. If there’s an awesome legendary doctor, reach out and see if you can shadow. There are so many amazing things to see but you can’t be afraid to pursue them.
