Internal Audit Intern

May - August 2022 • Austin, MN

What I liked

I liked that Hormel was able to provide housing for the summer and helped with travel accommodations. My work during my internship was valued and real work that would have been given to my co-workers if I wasn't there. Everyone was welcoming in the office.

What I wish was different

I wish that the recruiting team would have gotten the interns in contact with each other sooner, since most of us were living with 2 other interns in our apartments.

Advice

I would say anyone looking for a position within a larger corporation that wants to have a personal connection with people should consider working for Hormel. Be open to the experiences that arise and always be ready to give and receive feedback.

Industrial Engineering Intern

June - August 2020 • Austin, MN

What I liked

I was very hands on and got to take on many projects. Being the only IE intern in my location allowed me to receive a lot of focus from the team which was great. The work was meaningful, the culture was great, and I learned so much about Hormel and the food industry.

What I wish was different

Sometimes it was hard to get others on board with my plans, such as maintenance and production supervisors. Our plant was going through a transformation so people were very busy and didn’t have tons of time to hear my ideas. Also, trying to communicate with floor personnel can be a little intimidating at times, but it’s doable.

Advice

This is a great company and you will really feel like and Industrial Engineer with the work you do. It is hard to drive change in a big company, but stay committed and you can make things happen.
