Biology Research Intern
May - July 2019 • Statesboro, GA
What I liked
I loved being able to do research for another university. I worked and lived with a group of students from all across the nation. My mentor and her colleagues also helped me improve many aspects of my research strategies and helped me plan for my future.
What I wish was different
I wish the experience had been about a few weeks longer. In ten weeks, we were able to perform two experiments and have development meetings. In twelve or so weeks, we would have had the opportunity to spend time at other universities or organizations. There, we would have learned about them and possible careers.
Advice
Don’t be afraid to apply for programs that are far from home. Not only did I gain valuable research experience, I gained a sense of independence that has powered me through this semester.
