I had the honor of being part of one of the first waves of interns at BGEA. I was impressed with the professionalism, hospitality, education, and passion exhibited throughout my 3 months. My department took me in immediately and let me work side-by-side with people in all parts of Video Ministry Services and allowed me to gain some extremely valuable hands-on experience.
What I wish was different
While I was extremely grateful for my host family and the friendship that we created during my time in Charlotte, I think that pairing interns with people from the department they work in (as tricky as that might be to coordinate) would have been a little more beneficial. Personally, I think being able to understand the real-life time commitment that being in the media world requires would have been great to understand and grasp during my internship by living with someone who worked in my department.
Advice
It can be easy to enter into an internship after 4 years of hearing that it's all about you, your future, your goals, and your success, with a bit of an ego and sense of entitlement. My only advice is simple. BGEA is full of people who love the Lord, love to serve, have so many years of experience in the professional world, and are ready to walk along side you as you learn, grow, and are challenged. Listen to them and apply the wisdom they give you. Walk humbly, love God and love people and I guarantee your internship experience will be an unforgettable chapter.

ASL intern
May - August 2020 • Charlotte, NC
What I liked
I was hired to be the ASL intern at BGEA this past summer. However, due to Covid, the internships was canceled and I was never able to do it. Although this was the case, the interview process was such a good experience, as I was able to share my love and admiration for the BGEA and all the work it is doing. Everyone I interviewed with at the BGEA was so encouraging and made the interviewing process so comfortable. They really cared to know me and what made me interested in the internship. This is such an amazing ministry and it has impacted my life in so many ways. I am thankful for the experience I received interviewing and connecting with the BGEA and SP staff.
What I wish was different
The only thing I wish was different was that I would have been able to go in person and do the internship. I am very passionate about Sign Language and the Deaf culture and to be able to minister and share the gospel with them was something I was so excited about.
Advice
If you are interested in BGEA and the work they are doing, apply to work here! Even though Covid caused my internship to be canceled, I am still thankful I went through the process of applying and being offered the position. The staff at SP and BGEA have been trained so well to listen to you and find out what makes you interested in the program and serving God in this way.

Volunteer Ministry Intern
May - August 2015 • Charlotte, NC
What I liked
I was given the opportunity to meet and learn from multiple departments at the Billy Graham Library. I was instantly a part of the team and given opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way. The staff really poured into me professionally and spiritually.
What I wish was different
I would have liked to spend more time with other departments to see more first hand how other areas of the ministry function.
Advice
Ask questions, take time to meet with anyone who will give you time. There is so much wisdom and things to be gleaned from the people here and it is important to sit, listen, observe.

What I liked
I loved the people I worked with and the job itself. Everyone was very supportive and cooperative with each other, and it was a blessing to get to serve the people visiting the library.
What I wish was different
I can't think of anything I would have wanted to be different.
Advice
This isn't just a job. It's an opportunity to serve Christ by loving the visitors and your fellow workers, sharing the gospel, and praying for people. You have to be ready to go above and beyond just doing your job.
