The Deputy Chief Counsel is accountable for improving student achievement through the effective management of assigned functions and activities; under the direction of the Chief Counsel, assist the Chief Counsel, with significant responsibility for the departmental management; serve as primary of contract for senior District staff requiring assistance from legal counsel; assume the duties of the Chief Counsel in case of absence; prepare and conduct major litigation and administrative law hearings; assist in providing professional legal services and counsel to the District in a wide variety of legal matters such as labor and employment, student rights, litigation, liability, and school bonds; supervise support staff performing such duties.

 

Requirements:

A baccalaureate from a recognized college or university and a Juris Doctor degree or equivalent from an American Bar Association accredited institution. Five years of experience practicing law including experience providing legal counsel to school districts, educational institutions, or similar public agencies. Experience working with K-12 school districts in California is preferred. Experience involving the supervision of professional and administrative support staff is preferred.

Active membership and good standing in the State Bar of California throughout employment in this classification. Valid California driver's license.
