The Department
The mission of the Administrative Services Department is to manage the financial affairs and business services of the City of Pico Rivera and to maintain the associated automated record-keeping systems.
City Hall is open Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. This position may be scheduled to work up to 28 hours per week.
Essential Duties
As an intern, you will work side-by-side with our finance professionals to support key functions such as:
- Accounts payable and receivable processing.
- Utility billing and account maintenance.
- Invoice verification and financial recordkeeping.
- Customer service for billing inquiries.
- General administrative support and data entry.
- Research and reconciliation of account discrepancies.
Qualifications
This is a paid internship (part-time) with flexible scheduling. You may work up to 28 hours per week. Some evening or weekend hours may be required.
Knowledge of:
- Basic accounting and recordkeeping principles
- Microsoft Excel, Word, and general office software
- Finance-related procedures, such as billing and invoicing, are desired
Skills/Ability to:
- Operate standard office equipment, including a computer and a variety of word processing and software applications.
- Keep financial statistical records.
- Perform varied clerical work.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
To be eligible for an internship with the City of Pico Rivera, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Enrollment:
Must be currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program at an accredited college or university.
GPA Requirement:
Must have and maintain a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Prospective interns must complete the City’s online job application, which includes submitting a résumé, transcript (official or unofficial), letter of interest, and proof of enrollment.
Selection and salary placement will be based on qualifications, interview performance, and departmental needs. Selected candidate(s) must successfully pass the City's criminal background check and physical assessment prior to receiving a final offer.
The City reserves the right to terminate the internship at any time with or without cause, or if the student no longer meets eligibility requirements.

Licenses and Certifications
- Must possess a valid Class C California Driver's License or ability to obtain Class C California Driver’s license within 10 days of hire, and a safe driving record throughout the course of employment. City employees are registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles, Employee Pull Notice Program.
- Proof of car insurance (to be eligible for mileage reimbursement).
