Assistant Principal

Vermilion Local School District seeks candidates for the role of Assistant Principal at Vermilion High School. Major job responsibilities of the position include:

Student discipline: Utilize knowledge and skills in student discipline management to create and maintain a positive learning environment at VHS. Respond to discipline referrals from staff by investigating incidents, levying consequences as specified in the student code of conduct, and communicating with parents and teachers.

Safety and security: Be the key figure in the VHS safety and security program, implementing protocols and measures to enhance staff and student safety.

Evaluation: Observe and assess VHS teachers and provide feedback to improve all aspects of their job performance.

Instructional improvement: Participate in an ongoing process of growth by implementing the building’s instructional core plan and assisting the principal in enhancing teacher knowledge and skill, student engagement, and rigorous, relevant curriculum.

Vermilion High School believes in technology innovation. As a 1:1 computing environment, we use Google Apps and other software tools to leverage higher levels of inquiry-based instruction and have done so for 13+ years. Our students all have their own MacBook Air 24/7. Our teachers utilize CleverTouch technology as well as tools like Google Classroom, Desmos, Edgenuity, and others.

VHS staff approach curriculum alignment collaboratively, and we have aligned curriculum with state standards. Our curricula have been developed and improved by our teaching staff, working alone and as members of their department.

Vermilion High School is focused on college- and career-readiness. We continue to create and implement new programs to prepare students for both the workplace and higher education, and we seek candidates who understand the importance of each.

 

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree including graduate credit hours in professional education with major emphasis on administration, supervision, curriculum and related areas.
  • Appropriate state of Ohio license – Administrative License or eligible for an Alternative Principal License
  • At least three (3) years of prior effective teaching experience
  • Knowledge of the curriculum used by the Vermilion Local Schools
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License
  • Successfully passes a BCI and FBI background check
  • Knowledge and skill in education technology
