District Instructional Coach

JOB SUMMARY:   The PPS instructional coach’s job is to develop and provide high-quality professional learning experiences aligned to the district’s goals for staff in the areas of evidence-based instructional strategies to support learning within our MTSS framework, curriculum resources, and instructional technology. These experiences include individual and group coaching, whole/large group professional learning, just-in-time resources and tips, and asynchronous learning.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Provides coaching and professional learning for instructional staff.
  • Provide leadership support to principals and directors throughout the District.
  • Supports team leaders, CIC, curriculum revision teams, and teacher groups to realign curriculum to meet state and district priority standards, and develop and provide professional learning and support around updated curriculum.
  • Coordinates district professional development in cooperation with the Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment department.
  • Assist in the onboarding and support of curriculum, instruction, and assessment tools and resources.
  • Collaborates with other district departments on district-wide professional learning needs and systems.
  • Prepares training resources, how-to documents, quick tips, and related media.
  • Support the district’s goals and the multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS).
  • Works with instructional staff to integrate technology into the curriculum and classroom. 
  • Supports projects, new technologies, and collaborative learning with staff and students.  
  • Provides professional development and support in instructional technology best practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Regular and consistent attendance.
  • Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Portage Public Schools Employee Handbook.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Education
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certification
  • 5 or more years of successful teaching experience.
  • Previous work in curriculum development.
  • Knowledge of K-12 curriculum.
  • Previous work in a building or district leadership capacity.
  • Knowledge of the Michigan State Curriculum standards, specifically those related to technology and elementary education
  • Experience with developing and leading professional learning
  • Experience coaching staff members
  • Ability to build and foster relationships with a wide range of professional learners
  • Ability to plan and work concurrently on multiple projects
  • Ability to work independently and problem solve
  • Ability to collect and analyze data in order to enact positive change
  • Trained in Adaptive Schools
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Google for Education tools and resources
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with district staff and the public.
  • Ability to assume responsibility, display initiative, and exercise good judgment.
  • Proficient computer and document skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
