Medical Technologist I
1.0 POSITION SUMMARY
1.1 The Medical Technologist I is responsible for performing high complexity testing while adhering to laboratory policies and procedures which include quality control, quality assurance, and safety.
2.0 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
2.1 The Medical Technologist I is responsible for managing assigned tests ensuring specimen integrity by adhering to laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing. The duties listed below are illustrations of the various type of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment. The Medical Technologist I will follow laboratory procedures for:
§ Performing high complexity testing.
§ Specimen handling and processing.
§ Reagent handling and processing.
§ Data entry in excel or software.
§ Communicating issues to Laboratory Management.
§ Reviewing test analyses independently and with management.
§ Analyzing, reviewing, and reporting test results and quality control results independently and with management.
§ Entering and releasing results.
§ Taking remedial action when indicated.
§ Reporting and maintaining records of test results.
§ Troubleshooting equipment
§ Adhering to all safety policies.
§ Maintaining laboratory equipment.
§ Storage and disposal of specimens.
§ Adhering to all laboratory standards.
§ Reviewing SOPs as assigned.
§ Identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and taking appropriate action including notification of Laboratory Management.
§ Participation in laboratory quality assurance programs and laboratory continuing education programs.
§ Participating in proficiency testing and competency evaluation throughout the year.
§ Maintaining supplies related to daily assignments.

4.1 The Medical Technologist I interacts with all levels of the organization. The Medical Technologist I interacts with organizations and advisors outside of the company as required.
5.0 POSITIONS SUPERVISED
5.1 The Medical Technologist I position is an individual contributor position, however they may be asked to supervise/manage less experienced Medical Technologists.
6.0 EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS
6.1 Position requires a minimum of a Bachelors degree in medical technology or related life science.
6.2 Additional experience and qualifications include:
§ Knowledge of Microsoft Office® applications.
§ Knowledge and application of CLIA requirements.
§ The ability to work in a fast-paced environment, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
§ Strong attention to detail.
§ The ability to manage, set, and organize multiple priorities and exercise sound independent judgment within areas of responsibility.
§ Knowledge and application of HIPAA regulations.

8.0 WORK CONDITIONS
8.1 General Work Conditions

8.2.1 Work in the laboratory may require personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to lab coats, gloves, protective eyewear, scrubs, and masks.
8.2.2 Work conditions may require laboratory personnel to experience:
§ Occasional exposure to unpleasant chemicals and specimens.
§ Potential exposure to bio-hazardous materials, and chemical hazards.
§ Prolonged periods of standing
§ Repeated movement of fingers, hands, and wrists.
8.2.3 Work conditions may require laboratory personnel to:
§ Work in biological and chemical safety hoods.
§ Work with highly sensitive laboratory equipment.
§ Follow written, detailed, and complicated instructions without error.
