Chemical Operator

Position Summary 
The core of this position is the operation and execution of strict cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices) procedures to execute a manufacturing process. It requires knowledge of organic laboratory techniques and the ability to learn a new system for performing chemical reactions. A strong competency in these lab techniques is key and needed for Bright Path Labs to excel into the future. Location: Scottsdale, AZ 

 

Role Responsibilities 

Understand organic chemistry laboratory techniques 

Capable of learning and following 5S methodology 

Ability to work and communicate well with teammates while executing chemical procedures 

Execute in process sampling as needed 

Execution of mathematical calculations as outlined in procedures 

May write and review SOPs, Validation Protocols, Quality Protocols, Test Methods, and Specifications. 

Clear (legible), accurate, and complete documentation of activities on approved worksheets and laboratory notebooks. 

Able to manage and track assigned projects. 

May be assigned to general laboratory duties. 

Uses protective equipment (PPE) as needed to prevent exposure to dangerous chemicals 

Follows established procedures as described by Batch Records to manufacture chemical intermediates and finished products 

Follows established procedures as described by SOP's and other operating procedures to maintain a safe working environment that complies with safety and environmental rules and regulations 

Transfers raw materials, finished products, wastewater, waste solvents, and other wastes between tanks, drums, and shipping containers using pumps, pressure and other equipment; handles solid chemicals as chemical intermediates, products and waste 

Labels hazardous waste containers as appropriate to maintain compliance with labeling regulations and times 

Maintains records necessary to record process conditions as defined by procedures and as required in certain circumstances 

Maintains the production area(s) in a clean and orderly condition 

Performs building cleanup as needed 

Performs shipping, packaging and receiving activities as needed 

Uses company computer/handheld devices to enter records and documents 

Attends training as designated to facilitate above knowledge and to maintain required updates 

Must be able to work in confined spaces 

Must be able to use a respirator/supplied air when needed (Bright Path provides the training) and follow OSHA, safety, and written guidelines 

Handles drums, buckets, and other containers of hazardous and non-hazardous materials as products or waste. Some but not all of these activities including: 

Combines partial drums to ensure all waste drums 90% full for shipping 

Handles (scooping, shoveling, bucketing) wastes as needed 

Repackages wastes for shipment to drum disposal facilities 

Cleans drums for shipment to drum disposal facilities 

  

Additional Responsibilities: 

Shows ability to train new employee operators 

Performs test batches of future projects 

  

Required Qualifications 

Motivated, independent and team worker, with effective communication, documentation, writing and problem-solving skills. Ability to perform assigned tasks in multi-disciplinary environment – process, manufacturing, basic R&D. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel. 

  

Experience and Education 

BS/BA in a chemical discipline; minimum of 1 year of organic laboratory experience preferred, or 

Associates degree in a chemical discipline; minimum of 2 years of organic laboratory experience preferred, or 

GED; minimum of 3 years of organic laboratory experience preferred 

Must have experience or demonstrated ability working with little supervision. 

Background check required. 

Travel Requirements 

0-5% Travel required for this role 

  

Physical Demands and Work Environment: 
Regular (50% - 75%) exertion including standing/walking for extended periods of time, lifting/carrying more than 30, works with chemicals and wears basic personal protective equipment (PPE) (glasses, gloves, ear protection), and restrictive PPE (tyvek suits, respirators), operates lab instruments. At times low physical effort includes sitting, and operating computers or other small equipment.
