
Lighting Technician

The Lighting Technician supports in-house and event-based lighting production by assisting in equipment setup, operation, and maintenance. They work under the guidance of senior technicians to help execute lighting designs for various events, contribute to the upkeep of the lighting inventory, and continue developing technical skills through hands-on experience and training.
Technicians are responsible for all incoming and outgoing shipments, including loading/off-loading trucks, pallets and shelving products, and maintaining accurate inventory records. They must follow incoming and outgoing delivery protocols, safely assist team members with shipments, and may drive company vehicles to and from show sites.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Warehouse Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment
- Clean and maintain gear; identify items needing repair and coordinate gear repair with supervisor as needed
- Prepare loads for will call and shows by organizing gear, reviewing and finalizing pull sheets
- Support gear check-in/check-out and quality control processes including accurate scanning of all equipment in inventory tracking system
- Assist with inventory counts and report discrepancies to the manager
- Help load/unload deliveries and follow proper invoicing protocols
- Inspect all incoming shipments and follow receiving protocol
- Assist will call rental clients as needed
- Operate forklifts and warehouse equipment to move gear as needed
- Adhere to warehouse safety protocols and participate in safety meetings/inspections
- Demonstrate professionalism and collaborate effectively in a team setting
- Prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and directives
- Perform other duties as assigned
Show/Event Responsibilities
- Setup, work, and strike events according to directions from senior technicians, department managers and production managers
- Adhere to assigned schedules and timelines for all show/event execution needs
- Work independently with minimal oversight to complete assigned tasks
- Lead and manage local crew during build and strike, ensuring efficiency and task completion
- Handle equipment loading/unloading and setup of truss, lighting, cabling, control systems, etc.
- Operate forklifts, scissor lifts, and boom lifts as needed
- Implement show designs accurately based on CAD drawings and instructions
- Operate technical gear during live events
- Safely operate company trucks and vans as needed
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Required:
- 3+ years experience working in the live event industry with a focus on lighting and lighting systems
- Prior warehouse experience
- Proficient in:
- Lighting warehouse preparations including all load in and out activities
- Installation and operation of small to medium lighting systems
- Operation of basic equipment and providing direction to event labor
- Basic truss system builds and use of common tools and equipment
- Familiarity with basic signal flow principals
- Familiarity with general inventory and inventory tracking system
- Demonstrated knowledge of security and safety requirements
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills; willingness to support and proactively communicate with teammates and crew members
- Strong organizational skills – detail oriented, ability to effectively prioritize, and deadline driven
- Ability to independently manage assigned tasks, troubleshoot and determine the appropriate solutions to challenges as they arise
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
- High school diploma or GED
- Possess valid driver’s license with clean DMV record; ability to commute to and from events
Preferred:
- Familiarity with and interest in audio and video equipment
- Experience with Flex inventory tracking system
- College degree or experience in related fields
- Lighting certifications
- Forklift certification
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Safely lift, move and transport equipment, materials and tools weighing 50 lbs. unassisted or more to complete assigned projects
- Stand for extended periods of time, as well as bend, stoop, crawl, stretch, climb, and/or lift repeatedly
- Work in various climates and conditions including warehouse and outdoor elements (e.g. noise, dust, weather)
- Work performed in a combination of warehouse, outdoor, venue and office environments
- Operate carts, dollies, pallet jacks and other gear to move items around
- Go up and down stairs, when applicable
- Work at a height of up to 30 feet or more and on mezzanine level, when applicable
