Graduate Research Assistant

About the Role

The Council is seeking a detail-oriented and data-savvy Graduate Research Assistant to support ongoing research and policy initiatives. This part-time role (5–10 hours per week) is ideal for a current doctoral student interested in criminal justice data, policy, or applied research. The position is fully remote, offers flexible scheduling, and reports directly to the Policy Director.


Responsibilities

  • Assist with data updates for CCJ’s descriptive data products
  • Support the research team with data and research-related tasks, as needed
     

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in a graduate program (public policy, criminology, sociology, social work, data science, or related field required); enrollment in a doctoral program preferred
  • Familiarity with criminal justice data sources and concepts
  • Experience with basic quantitative analysis; familiarity with Excel and Stata is essential, Tableau a plus
  • Strong research and writing skills, including the ability to synthesize literature quickly
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently in a remote setting
