Program: After-School STEM Program (Grades 8–12)
Hours: Part-Time (25 hours per week)
Location: Lompoc and Santa Barbara, California (not a virtual or hybrid position)
Position Overview:
We seek a passionate and experienced Educator STEM Education Curriculum Developer to design and implement an engaging after-school program for grades 8–12. A background and experience in K-12 education are essential for this position. This position offers a unique opportunity to create innovative, project-based learning experiences that foster students' interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and improve their overall math performance. The program is designed as a pathway to STEM careers and aligns with California's Master Plan for Career Education.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development & Implementation:
- Design and develop a comprehensive STEM curriculum focused on hands-on, project-based learning.
- Incorporate real-world applications of STEM concepts to enhance student engagement and understanding.
- Ensure alignment with California’s Master Plan for Career Education and career readiness standards.
Student Engagement & Learning:
- Create interactive, inquiry-based STEM projects that build critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Develop strategies to improve students’ math performance through integrated STEM activities, assessment, and tracking of students' math performance.
- Organize and lead field trips to STEM-related businesses, museums, and research facilities.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student exploration and creativity.
Program Coordination & Support:
- Collaborate with teachers, school staff, and community partners to enhance program offerings.
- Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting curriculum and instructional methods as needed.
- Provide mentorship and career guidance to students exploring STEM pathways.
Evaluation & Reporting:
- Collect and analyze student performance data to measure program effectiveness.
- Prepare reports on curriculum outcomes and recommend improvements based on feedback and results.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, STEM field, Curriculum Development, or a related discipline (Master’s preferred).
- Classroom experience K-12, preferably working with Junior and High School students.
- Experience developing and delivering STEM-focused curricula for middle or high school students.
- Strong understanding of project-based learning and experiential education methods.
- Proficiency in math instruction and ability to integrate math skills into STEM projects.
- Experience coordinating field trips and hands-on learning experiences.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including educators, parents, and industry partners.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of California’s educational standards and career education framework.
- Track record of implementation in K-12 settings
- Background in mentoring students from underrepresented communities in STEM.
- Experience using technology and digital tools to enhance STEM instruction.
Compensation:
$22-28/hour DOE
