Position Summary

We are seeking a proactive and detail-driven Accountant with direct experience in commercial real estate, particularly multifamily assets, and strong expertise in multi-entity accounting structures. This role will work closely with our Controller to manage and maintain financial records across a portfolio of real estate entities and partnerships.

Ideal candidates will be comfortable navigating the nuances of real estate fund structures, property-level accounting, lender reporting, and risk management. This position also supports the firm’s efforts in insurance procurement and analysis, making it a critical connector between operations, accounting, and finance.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain general ledgers for multiple entities, including multifamily property-level and corporate accounting
  • Post transactions, reconcile bank accounts, and manage rent rolls, security deposits, A/R, and A/P
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, budget vs. actual variance reports, and property performance summaries
  • Track CapEx and OpEx, ensuring accurate classification and alignment with investment business plans
  • Manage and analyze debt service payments, loan escrows, and lender covenant compliance
  • Support the asset management team with NOI tracking, occupancy trends, rent collections, and cash-flow insights
  • Oversee and manage insurance policies for all properties, including:
    • Coordinating with insurance brokers to obtain competitive quotes
    • Reviewing and comparing policy bids and coverages
    • Building models to evaluate insurance costs, deductibles, and risk trade-offs
    • Reviewing contracts for insurance compliance and risk exposure
  • Prepare financial and operational documentation for lenders, including:
    • Coordination of quarterly or annual lender reporting packages
    • Gathering and preparing property-level financials, rent rolls, and variance explanations
    • Supporting lender due diligence requests during refinances or acquisitions
  • Assist with onboarding new acquisitions: setting up accounting systems, workflows, and reporting templates
  • Reconcile expense reports, corporate credit cards, and manage intercompany cash flows
  • Work closely with the Controller on cash-flow forecasting, budgeting, and system optimization
  • Support fund-level accounting, including capital account tracking, waterfall models, and investor distribution schedules
  • Collaborate with external CPAs for tax compliance, 1099s, and cost segregation studies
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, lender requirements, and industry best practices

Requirements

  • Experience with multi-entity real estate structures, preferably involving funds or syndications
  • 1–5 years of accounting experience in commercial real estate; multifamily experience strongly preferred
  • Understanding of real estate operations, debt compliance, and risk/insurance management
  • Experience reviewing or managing property insurance programs
  • Familiarity with lender reporting, loan document compliance, and refinance/acquisition support
  • Proficiency in real estate accounting software (e.g., RealPage, Yardi, AppFolio)
  • Strong Excel skills, including the ability to analyze insurance models and loan performance
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with a high level of detail orientation
  • Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, remote-first environment
  • Colorado or Northern California location strongly preferred
