Digital Content and Social Media Specialist

GlobalGiving, a top-rated nonprofit on a mission to accelerate community-led change around the world, is seeking a Digital Content and Social Media Specialist to join our Marketing and Communications team. The ideal candidate will be a skilled content creator and social media expert who is dedicated to increasing brand awareness and attracting audiences for GlobalGiving’s online giving marketplace and other philanthropic services. Overview
The Digital Content and Social Media Specialist blends storytelling, creativity, and marketing to amplify GlobalGiving’s mission across digital platforms. They lead GlobalGiving’s social media presence and craft engaging, brand-aligned content for use across digital channels, including social media, email marketing, blog posts, and special campaigns. With a strong eye for content curation and a collaborative mindset, the ideal candidate knows how to manage, spark, and facilitate creative content generation across teams—particularly by working closely with our Program team to source compelling stories from our nonprofit partners around the world, and our Growth team to source effective donor-centric content to share across multiple donor audiences. As a key member of the Marketing and Communications team, they help bring GlobalGiving’s content strategy to life, ensuring consistency, creativity, and measurable impact.
Primary Responsibilities

Social Media & Community Engagement (40%)
- Develop and maintain a robust, on-trend social media calendar that builds the GlobalGiving brand and spotlights our approach, our partners, and their vital work around the world for a broad range of audiences across key regions.
- Bring creativity and innovation to social media by quickly identifying and capitalizing on trends, cultural moments, and viral opportunities, ensuring GlobalGiving stays relevant, engaging, and responsive in a fast-moving digital landscape.
- Empower and equip GlobalGiving staff to share relevant content across social media.
- Monitor social media channels, responding thoughtfully to comments and messages to nurture community interaction.
- Regularly review social media analytics to understand performance and suggest improvements.
- Stay updated on social media trends, digital marketing best practices, and emerging methods to enhance content creation and distribution.

Content Creation & Design (40%)
- Craft original, compelling content by interviewing individuals and community leaders, uncovering authentic narratives, and building engaging stories from the ground up, as well as responding with agility to news-driven moments with compelling social copy.
- Draft compelling, story-driven copy for social media, blog posts, and emails that resonate with diverse audiences, including individual donors, nonprofit leaders, corporate partners, and private wealth advisors.
- Build and manage a well-organized storybank, enabling quick access to impactful stories and content resources for team members.
- Create visually appealing graphics and multimedia assets using design tools such as Canva and Adobe, ensuring brand consistency across platforms.
- Develop short-form videos for platforms like Instagram Reels using mobile video editing software like CapCut and Canva.

Team Collaboration & Coordination (20%)
- Assist in managing content calendars and other documentation.
- Collaborate closely with teams across GlobalGiving to gather stories, photos, and project updates for use in marketing materials that reflect our unified, global identity.
- Participate actively in team meetings, training sessions, and feedback discussions to continuously grow skills.
- Attend meetings and implement strategy recommendations into our regular digital content.
Required Qualifications
For our team to be a great fit for you, the following qualifications should resonate with you:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field and/or proven experience in social media marketing, communications, or a related field
- 5 - 7 years of experience working in a social media role
- Strong writing and editorial skills with a passion for creative storytelling
- Excellent knowledge in social media marketing and platforms like Instagram, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, and Facebook
- Working knowledge of visual design and marketing software (such as Canva, Adobe, SproutSocial, HubSpot, and WordPress)
- A positive, collaborative attitude and eagerness to learn and contribute
- A passionate belief in the mission of GlobalGiving and our core values
Preferred Qualifications
In addition, the ideal candidate would also have some or all of the following qualifications or interests:
- Interest in news and international affairs
- Strong intercultural competence
- An understanding of search engine optimization
- Experience volunteering or working in nonprofit communications
- Comfortable with being an on-camera representative for the GlobalGiving brand
Salary and Benefits
Salary range: $60,000 - $75,000

Location
This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Public Relations Manager and has the option to be filled remotely or can be based in GlobalGiving's U.S. headquarters in Washington, D.C., but with flexible, hybrid work arrangements allowing for frequent remote work.
