External Communications & Marketing Intern

Please note this role is for currently enrolled students who will be receiving class credit for the internship. Compensation for this position is an end of semester stipend (one-time payment) in the amount of $825.00.

About the Internship                                                                                                                              
LifeWorks is looking for a Communications & Marketing Intern to join our dynamic MarCom team in Austin, TX for the Fall 2025 (9/8/25 through 12/5/25) semester. In this role, you’ll help us share powerful stories, highlight community impact, and connect with supporters across digital platforms. This internship offers a chance to build your skills while contributing to meaningful, mission-driven work—ranging from graphic design and content planning to developing core marketing assets. You’ll also take part in creating a social media playbook and instructional documents that guide others on how to produce effective marketing materials, ensuring consistent and impactful communication across all channels.

This is a collaborative role designed for someone who is curious, creative, and committed to social impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Marketing Asset Development: Design marketing materials—icons, templates, and visuals—that reflect LifeWorks mission and brand identity.
  • Instructional Guides: Create clear documentation to support consistent content creation across teams.
  • Content Collaboration: Work with the Communications Specialist to align content with LifeWorks voice and messaging.
  • Event Support: Support marketing and communications efforts for LifeWorks annual fundraising event, including content creation and promotional activities.
  • Social Strategy: Track trends, research engagement strategies, and contribute to the social media playbook.
  • Creative Brainstorming: Join planning sessions to develop ideas for campaigns and storytelling.
  • Photo and Video Production: Capture and edit photos and videos for digital and social media use.
  • Storytelling Support: Source and highlight impactful staff and client stories for external communications.
  • AI Research: Identify AI tools that can improve communication workflows and content production.

Who We're Looking For

  • Current student in communications, journalism, marketing, nonprofit studies, or a related field.
  • Strong writing, research, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and storytelling tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). 
  • Experience in graphic design, video editing, and photography is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Canva and Adobe Creative Suite are a plus.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.   
  • Passion for community work and respect for youth voice and agency.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.   
  • Self-starter with a collaborative spirit.
  • Discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Enthusiastic, proactive, and eager to learn.
