Expected Hours: 9:00 am – 5:30 pm 

Salary Range: $17.00 - $20.00

FLSA Status: Full Time | Non-Exempt

 

PURPOSE 

The Air Import and Export is responsible for coordinating and managing the logistics of international cargo shipments transported by air, ensuring timely and compliant movement of goods from origin to destination by handling all necessary documentation, customs clearance, communication with airlines, and customer service while adhering to relevant regulations and trade laws. 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive shipment requests from clients, provide quotes, and manage customer expectations regarding delivery timelines and costs.
  • Coordinate with airlines to book airfreight space, select optimal flight routes, and manage shipment schedules.
  • Prepare and verify all necessary export and import documents including airway bills (AWB), customs declarations, certificates of origin, invoices, and other required paperwork.
  • Facilitate customs clearance procedures at both origin and destination ports, ensuring compliance with import/export regulations and managing any customs issues.
  • Monitor shipment status throughout transit, providing updates to customers regarding flight details and delivery timelines.
  • Manage shipments requiring special handling like hazardous materials, perishable goods, or live animals, ensuring proper packaging and documentation.
  • Maintain communication with airlines, warehouse providers, customs brokers, overseas agents, and clients to coordinate shipment movement and address any concerns.
  • Negotiate freight rates with airlines to secure competitive pricing for clients.
  • Stay updated on international trade regulations, ensuring all shipments comply with relevant laws and standards.
  • Other duties may be assigned by management due to business change or business need.


SKILLS ESSENTIAL TO THE JOB

Technical

  • Windows Operating System
  • MS Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and Access)

Business

  • Bachelor or Masters in logistics, supply chain or related fields.
  • Thorough understanding of air shipment documentation process.
  • Possess excellent data entry skills and customer service skills with the ability to grasp extensive knowledge whole dealing with a variety of people
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, using logic and reasoning to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and risks, and identifying alternative solutions or approaches
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently
  • Time management skills

Human Relations

  • Self-motivated, with an ability to self-manage
  • Strong interpersonal/communication skills
  • Problem-solving and ability to handle complex situations

  • The incumbent typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties.
