Summer Research Internship – AI Infrastructure

Project Overview:
Project VortexEdge is a stealth-stage initiative to prototype a next-generation AI
infrastructure system designed for secure, high-performance inference of large language
models (LLMs) - without relying on public cloud APIs. We are developing a breakthrough AI
infrastructure system designed to enable secure, high-performance large language model (LLM) inference in environments where public cloud solutions are not viable. This initiative sits at the intersection of AI, systems architecture, and cybersecurity - blending hardware, orchestration software, and privacy-aware design to deliver real-time AI capabilities without sacrificing sovereignty or control.
We've defined the architecture and developed a full spec and bill of materials (BOM).
This internship focuses on building the initial working prototype, while exploring variations in runtime orchestration, model deployment, and system optimization under different workloads. This isn't a chatbot or cloud wrapper. It's about building the foundational layer for private, sovereign AI at the edge.
The project is sponsored by Platinum Venture Labs, an initiative under Platinum Capital Partners,
Inc. https://www.platinumcapitalpartners.net/about-us.html created to incubate and
accelerate breakthrough ideas

Internship Objectives: What You'll Work On
- Help prototype components of a next-generation secure AI pod
- Build orchestration tools to manage model execution and runtime controls
- Explore and benchmark inference runtimes (e.g., vLLM, TGI) across various hardware
platforms
- Contribute to token-level governance, observability, or access control layers
- Assist in pod architecture design, model packaging, and deployment workflows

Who We're Looking For
Beyond technical skills, we're seeking independent, applied thinkers who thrive in
ambiguity and enjoy building systems from first principles. Ideal candidates will:
- Have experience building or deploying functional prototypes, not just academic models
- Be comfortable working in a low-structure, early-stage environment
- Show initiative and resilience when dealing with incomplete documentation or tools
- Be able to document, explain, and reflect on their work clearly
- Contribute to shaping the architecture, tools, and workflows of a new category of AI
infrastructure
If you've ever built something useful before the spec was finalized - and enjoyed doing it - you'll thrive here.

Why Join
- Work on a stealth-mode AI infrastructure project unlike anything currently in market
- Solve real-world problems for high-value sectors like finance, health, and government
- Gain access to early-stage design and architecture decisions
- Help define a new category of secure AI delivery infrastructure

Internship format:
Location: Remote or Hybrid
Duration: 8-10 weeks (Summer 2025)
Compensation: Competitive stipend based on experience
Open to: Master's and PhD candidates in CS, EE, AI, or related fields

Confidentiality and IP
All participants will sign an NDA and IP assignment agreement
This is a privately funded R&D effort
