Agency Assistant

Pippin Properties, Inc. is seeking a full-time, in-person Agency Assistant.

Our boutique agency represents a curated list of the most celebrated and successful authors and artists at work in the publishing world today, many of whom have become household names in their own right, including Kate DiCamillo, Jandy Nelson, Peter H. Reynolds, Edel Rodriguez, LeUyen Pham, David Ezra Stein, and Sean Qualls.

We are seeking a highly motivated assistant who is eager to learn what it takes to be a top tier literary agent and understand every facet of publishing, particularly children’s, graphics, and young adult publishing. As Pippin’s agency assistant, you will report to the President of the company and support the agency at large. You will be an integral part of our small, focused, hardworking, and fun-loving team in our NYC office.

You will run the front desk of the office, acting as air traffic control, ensuring the mail comes and goes, supplies are stocked, and that the office and team are prepared for whatever may be on the agenda for each day. A steel trap memory is a big plus, as is the ability to communicate with ease and elegance in both speech and written word. Taking initiative and being proactive in a fast-paced, changing environment, you will effectively organize priorities and streamline their execution. Each day, you will build on the knowledge you gained the day before. Curiosity and passion for the art of making a deal, as well as your identity as a voracious reader, are a must. Global thinking and understanding of your role in the larger picture are also essential. There will be many opportunities to learn, as is the nature of a small company.

As agency assistant, you will be liaising with our foreign rights team, learning the ins and outs of the international publishing landscape, and thinking proactively about this important and exciting aspect of the business. This role also includes creating content for our social media channels, as well as facilitating permission and cover deals as needed.

Responsibilities also include (but not limited to):

- Acquaint yourself with Pippin clients, their work, new and old, their interests, their particular likes and dislikes, and cater to them accordingly

- Liaise directly with Pippin clients and support them on a day-to-day basis

- Design and maintain sell sheets, illustrator portfolio presentations, and website in tandem with the rest of the team

- Coordinate calendars across multiple time zones

- Read with curiosity and discernment, providing notes as needed

- Maintain client schedules to precision

- Organize files and track data with logic, accuracy, and dispatch

- Ready and willing to take on projects and responsibilities, as is often required in a small-business setting

- Be proficient in basic Office programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and their Google Office counterparts. An eye for design and basic Canva skills are also a plus.

Requirements must be:
- Passionate about literature for young people and curious about the publishing industry
- Meticulous, able to prioritize quickly, and skilled at multi-tasking
- Independent worker and strong communicator
- Resourceful / creative problem solver
- Proficiency in basic Office programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and their Google Office counterparts
- An eye for design and basic Canva skills are also a plus

To reiterate, this position will be in-person in our Bryant Park office, five days a week.

The starting salary for this position is $48,000.00, plus benefits, commensurate with experience.
