Speakers Bureau Intern (Hybrid) 

Supervisor: Development and Communications Specialist 

Term: June 15-August 29 (≈ 10–12 weeks, 24-32 hours/week)

Anthos|Home is a groundbreaking nonprofit start‑up that secures dignified, permanent housing for vulnerable New Yorkers. We break down barriers in the housing market so that families and individuals transitioning from homelessness can thrive in safe, stable homes. 

The Role

Anthos|Home is seeking a Speakers Bureau Intern to support the launch of our Speakers Bureau, a platform designed to amplify the stories of individuals with lived experience of housing insecurity and homelessness. Reporting to and collaborating with the Development and Communications Specialist, this intern will assist in researching national best practices, drafting policies, designing training curricula, and crafting the vision for the program. By the end of August you will deliver a toolkit to set up the Speakers program for success, and staff can seamlessly carry the initiative forward. 

You’ll Learn

Over the course of this project-based internship, you will: 

  • Apply human‑centered design to build a social‑impact program from scratch.
  • Gain practical insight into trauma‑informed storytelling and the ethical representation of lived experience.
  • Strengthen skills in policy writing, curriculum development, and project management.
  • Network with housing advocates and community partners across New York City.
  • See first‑hand how a lean start‑up accelerates systems change in the housing sector.

Key Responsibilities

Resource Preparation:  

  • Develop curriculum and training documents for Speaker Bureau, one pagers, slide decks and any other materials needed.
  • Assemble training packets and upload materials to the shared drive for easy access for speakers and staff.

Basic Research:  

  • Compile lists of potential events, conferences, and community forums aligned with Anthos|Home’s mission and Speaker Bureau objectives.

Database & File Management:  

  • Enter speaker contact information, training attendance, and engagement outcomes into Excel or Salesforce trackers.
  • Organize digital folders, follow naming conventions, and manage version control for shared documents.

Meeting Support:  

  • Attend planning meetings with the Development and Communications Specialist, taking concise notes, and circulating action items.
  • Work with Anthos Home Tenant Coordination Aftercare team and other departments to support engagement with participants and platforms to engage other external potential members.

Communication Drafting & Calendar logistics:  

  • Draft reminder emails, thank you notes, and brief social media captions; route all communications for approval prior to distribution.
  • Ensure scheduling of meetings and reminders to members and any other partners are sent out accordingly.

Process Documentation:  

  • Help build step-by-step guides (SOPs) for recurring tasks such as onboarding new speakers or closing out events.

General Administrative Duties:  

  • Track and submit expense receipts, order supplies, and perform other clerical tasks as needed.
  • Facilitate the payment and tracking of stipends for Speakers Bureau participants.

Project Handoff:

  • Prepare an End‑of‑Summer Handoff Package that includes: the Vision & Goals document, policy manual, training curriculum, SOPs, sample outreach templates, data trackers, and recommendations for next steps.

Qualifications and Skills: 

Required: 

  • Current enrollment or recent graduate from an undergraduate or graduate program.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.

Preferred: 

  • Interest or prior experience in public speaking, advocacy, storytelling, or event coordination.
  • Experience with content management systems, social media, and database software.
  • Commitment to Anthos|Home's mission and sensitivity toward individuals experiencing housing instability.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care approaches is a plus, but not required.

Compensation and Schedule 

  • This is a paid internship at $18/hr
  • Schedule: In-Person at Anthos|Home’s Financial District office on Mondays and Wednesdays, with remote work on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
