Director of Student Services - Special Education

The Upper Sandusky Exempted Village School District is currently searching for an energetic, motivated, student-centered individual to fill the following position: 

 Director of Student Services – Special Education The Director of Student Services – Special Education in the Upper Sandusky Exempted Village Schools directs the planning, delivery, assessment, and ongoing improvement of student learning and achievement for all students and staff with the additional responsibility of supervising all special education staff hired and assigned to the district, including certified teaching and non-certified teaching personnel, therapy providers, school psychologist.  The Director of Student Services – Special Education provides staff leadership through professional development, encourages staff enthusiasm and teamwork, promotes a safe, efficient, and effective work/learning environment, advances the change process, and implements strategies and time-frames to accomplish organizational objectives.  Additionally, this person participates in collaborative planning of effective staff development programs that improve teaching outcomes and student learning (e.g., methods, skills, commitment, etc.), coordinates the resident educator program, engages in curriculum review and material adoptions, provides special education related in-service training to staff and administrators, monitors special education laws, rules and regulations, keeps current with state academic content standards, benchmarks, and indicators, and promotes the continuity of the instructional program.  Interested candidates should possess a valid Ohio teaching and/or administrative certificate or license.  Prospective candidates should have a working knowledge of curriculum design and appropriate special education teaching strategies, outstanding writing and communication skills, the ability to meet all required paperwork deadlines, and proficiency with technology and its integration into lessons as we are a 1:1 Chromebook campus.  Candidates should also possess an enthusiastic personality that builds excellent rapport with students, an inherent interest to innovate, aspiration to expand one’s professional learning, exhibit character and professionalism that reflects positively on our district, and the desire to make a difference in young people’s lives.  Candidates with a Master’s Degree in Curriculum or Special Education, or demonstrate a willingness to earn one of those credentials in the near future, would be looked upon favorably as well as would those candidates with an administrative license or desire to earn that credential as the district would eventually like the successful candidate to be qualified to evaluate staff.
