Job Summary:
This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Temporary Biological Sciences Research Technician 1 position for the Department of Botany and Plant Pathology at Oregon State University (OSU ).
The position is located on OSU campus as well as a nearby field site, which requires driving to the field location every day (Monday-Friday).
The project is to establish a poplar field plantation site to use in future research studies. The incumbent will help with planting and maintaining the field plot in the spring and summer of 2024. This will include mowing, weeding, and irrigating the 7-acre field site.
The incumbent will also be required to water and maintain trees in the greenhouse every day (Monday-Friday). This will include fertilizing, pruning, cleaning, and planting.
The incumbent will also have the opportunity to help other lab members with plant pathology experiments in the greenhouse.

Key Responsibilities
50% Mowing, weeding, and maintenance of the newly established tree plantation. This includes driving a tractor and working with irrigation lines.
40% Greenhouse watering and general maintenance of greenhouse plants. This includes fertilizing, pruning, planting of trees in the greenhouse.
10% Assisting with data collection and greenhouse experiments
What You Will Need
• Experience working with trees or plants in a greenhouse or field setting
• Experience mowing or using a tractor
• Ability to follow directions and make independent decisions regarding field and greenhouse maintenance
• Commitment to safety, quality of work, and professionalism
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and inclusively with peers from various backgrounds and perspectives.
This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030
What We Would Like You to Have
• 2 years of college coursework in wildlife biology, natural resources, or related field or equivalent combination of training and experience
• Experience working independently with trees in the field or greenhouse
• Proficiency working with tractors and irrigation equipment
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
May be required to work outside under unfavorable weather conditions. May be required to lift heaving objects (up to 50lbs). Traveling to field site (within Corvallis) will be required every day (Monday-Friday).
