Overview: In this role you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional customer service and expert product knowledge in the lumber and building materials industry. You will assist customers with their projects by offering recommendations, answering questions, and ensuring a seamless purchasing experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide outstanding service by assisting customers in selecting the right lumber and building materials for their projects.
- Address customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints with professionalism and courtesy.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with customers to foster loyalty and repeat business.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of lumber types, grades, and building materials, including their applications and benefits.
- Utilize strong sales techniques to upsell and cross-sell products based on customer needs.
- Assist in receiving, stocking, and organizing inventory in the lumber and building materials department.
- Monitor inventory levels and report discrepancies or low stock to management.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards for product storage and handling.
- Work closely with team members to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Collaborate with management to improve store operations and customer service processes.
- Participate in training sessions to enhance product knowledge and sales skills
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in building materials, construction, or related fields is a plus.
- Previous experience in retail sales, customer service, or the lumber/building materials industry preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
- Basic mathematical skills for calculating pricing and project estimates.
- 1 year using a point-of-sale (POS) system
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry heavy items repeatedly throughout the workday.
- Ability to stand, bend, and move around for extended periods.
- Ability to lift heavy materials (up to 75 LBS) and perform physical tasks related to loading and unloading.
