Position Description:

The Kansas Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH) law student clerkship program provides law students with experience in the judicial decision-making process and administrative law. Law clerks are assigned to work with each of the seven Administrative Law Judges (ALJ) during a clerkship.  Law clerks are extensively involved with the ALJ’s work by attending hearings, assisting in the drafting of factual findings and conclusions of law, and drafting prehearing orders and rulings on motions.  Clerks also research and prepare memoranda on novel and complex issues of law.  Because the OAH considers administrative appeals from about 30 State of Kansas agencies, the clerkship program exposes clerks to a wide variety of state and federal administrative law issues including professional and occupational licensing, public benefit programs and procedural matters.  The OAH is willing to coordinate with the law school so the clerks can pursue academic credit for a non-paid positions.
