Typical job duties of a Tax Auditor:
- Perform state tax audits of businesses operating in Florida
- Perform focused or complex tax audits
- Review records, tax returns, and accounting systems
- Identify unpaid taxes or refund adjustments
- Calculate tax assessments or refunds
- Prepare written report of audit findings
- Explain audit findings and laws to taxpayers or representatives
Knowledge and skills needed:
- Basic math, accounting, and auditing principles
- Data verification and financial analysis
- Interpreting financial data and tax information
- Reviewing records and preparing written audit reports
Tax Auditor I minimum qualifications (must have one of the following):
- Two years of bookkeeping experience
- 60 semester hours from an accredited college or university with at least two courses in accounting can substitute for the required experience
- Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with 2 accounting classes can substitute for the required experience.
Tax Auditor III minimum qualifications (must have one of the following):
- 4 years of accounting or auditing experience at a paraprofessional level
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three accounting courses or two accounting courses and one tax course.

Pay:
TA I - Annual: $46,229.16 Monthly: $3,852.43
TA III - Annual: $54,180.84 Monthly: $4,515.07
