The City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is seeking applicants for the position of Regular Part-Time Assistant Crew Leader I-III, depending on the applicant’s qualifications. 

Assistant Parks Crew Leader I: $15.04–$17.78/hour

Assistant Parks Crew Leader II: $16.19–$18.84/hour

Assistant Parks Crew Leader III: $17.32–$20.01/hour

Pro-rated sick, vacation and holiday leave

28 hours per week

This position assists in the daily operation and maintenance of the parks and other City facilities.  The position performs routine tasks with Parks Service Workers under the supervision of the Parks Managers. The Assistant Crew Leader may also oversee seasonal Groundskeepers during certain tasks.

Duties include operating equipment, such as chainsaws, push mower, riding mower, pick-up truck with or without trailer, dump truck, paint striper, tractor, and performing tasks like mowing, weeding, litter clean-up, ball field maintenance, tree trimming/removal, painting, restroom maintenance, and minor equipment maintenance.

Job Description

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Assists in the daily operation and maintenance of the parks and other City facilities. The position performs routine tasks with Parks Service Workers under the supervision of the Parks Managers.

 

EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative Only)

Assists Parks Service Workers in the parks maintenance operation including, at times, serving as a crew leader of seasonal Groundskeepers;

Duties including push mowing, weeding, litter clean-up, ball fields set-up and maintenance, tree trimming or removal, painting, restroom maintenance, and minor equipment maintenance;

Operates one or more of the following: chainsaws, push mower, riding mower, pick-up truck with or without trailer, dump truck, paint striper, tractor, front end loader, forklift, string trimmer, hand sprayer and other small equipment;

Performs assigned jobs in a safe, efficient, responsible manner;

Follows through and enforces all policies and procedures established by the City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department;

Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city staff members, volunteers and the general public.

Carries out any assigned responsibilities relating to the City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department as directed by the supervisory staff;

Regular and predictable on-site attendance required.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to operate a variety of motorized equipment. Must show initiative, logical thought process, interest in work and ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to perform all types of outdoor physical labor in all types of weather. Reflects a positive image of the City of Kettering at all times. Possess a valid Ohio Driver's License and have a good driving record. Must be flexible during various seasons to assist with snow/ice removal and/or event setup/cleanup. Schedule may include working evenings and weekends.

 

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

High school diploma for equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities required; must be at least 18 years of age.  Previous grounds keeping experience highly desirable, with leadership/supervision a plus.
