The National Senior Games is an Olympic-style multi-sport event that brings together 11,000+ participants ages 50+ to compete in more than 20 sports. The 2025 National Senior Games presented by Humana is July 24 through August 4, 2025, in Des Moines, Iowa.
About Us: The National Senior Games Association (NSGA) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting the benefits of competitive sports, physical fitness, and active aging to adults ages 50+. The NSGA hosts the biennial National Senior Games and is the umbrella organization for State Senior Games throughout the United States and Canada. Athletes must qualify at a State Senior Games in the year before the National Senior Games to participate in most events. This world-class competition celebrates the athletic accomplishments of older adults and inspires people of all ages to be active. The NSGA has held 19 summer national championships to date.
Positions: NSGA is seeking 20+ interns for the Summer 2025 Season (June/July - August 2025), with an in-person requirement from July 21 - August 5, 2025 in Des Moines, Iowa. Applicants are required to complete an application and upload their resume. Please read the below for descriptions of the internship requirements, responsibilities, and an ideal candidate profile. Those not residing in/near Des Moines, IA, are responsible for their own travel to/from Des Moines. National Senior Games covers accommodations during the event.

Communications & Content Creation Intern: The 2025 National Senior Games is seeking students or recent graduates interested in expanding their skills and learning about journalism, communications and more, to apply for the Communications Intern position.
- Candidate Basics - The candidate is someone who understands the spirit of collaboration, creativity, and cooperation. This person has mastered cultural awareness, organization, personal responsibility, professionalism, and time management. The candidate should have experience with active problem-solving in a fast-paced environment. A member of this team is a strong communicator, has a positive attitude, and is a team player.
- Requirements - The candidate is required to have excellent writing skills, demonstrated in a portfolio of work. Candidates should have experience in content creation for social media that is brand specific. Candidates must have experience with creating videos and conducting interviews for use on social media platforms. Candidates majoring in and with experience in journalism, communication, and public relations are preferred. The ability to identify newsworthy content and story ideas is a plus. Experience with using Canva is a plus.
- Responsibilities - Daily activities include creating content for social media platforms and the NSGA online news platform plus daily e-newsletter. Content creation includes written athlete features, video interviews, highlight reels, photos, and more. Basic photos and videos editing for live and future posting. Ensuring voice and visuals align with the brand standards. Communications interns are also required to speak with athletes for interviews and to collect story ideas for future content.
- Paid or Credit - All candidates selected receive a stipend. Students interested in receiving college credit check the box on the application and must submit the paperwork from their colleges at the start of their internship.
