Intern, Office of the Secretary

Calling all students!

Ready to step into the heart of state government and make things happen?
The Office of the Secretary is looking for a motivated and detail-savvy intern to join our team! You’ll work closely with the Executive Assistant to help keep the Secretary, Chief of Staff, and Deputy Chief of Staff on schedule and prepped with everything they need—from trip memos to briefing materials.

Love event planning? You’ll also team up with our Director of Events to scout out venues, compare pricing, brainstorm giveaway ideas, and help coordinate RSVPs for events throughout the year. Plus, you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at how contracts and grants come together by working with our fiscal and legal teams.

Full-Time/Part-Time:  Part-Time, up to 40 hours per week

Compensation:  $15.03/hr. 

Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Executive Assistant in scheduling and coordinating meetings and travel for the Secretary, Chief of Staff, and Deputy Chief of Staff.
  • This includes communicating with external stakeholders, state agencies, and Commerce staff to coordinate logistics.
  • Assist the Director of Events with research on event location, pricing, date options, and giveaway items for various events throughout the year.
  • Create invitations, agendas, and attendee biography collateral for event preparation. Track RSVPs to various events throughout the year.
  • Attend meetings and support the Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff. Take notes, prepare materials, and assist in tracking key deadlines and deliverables.
  • Assist with fiscal processes within the Office of the Secretary. This includes travel reimbursements, payment vouchers, encumbrances, interfund, etc. Works

Intern Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled in college courses at an accredited college or university.

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:  

Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate required in accordance with Executive Order 2004-03. Each applicant (even non-residents) who is selected for a State of Kansas job vacancy must apply for a Tax Clearance Certificate within 10 days from the date of the offer letter by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue's (KDOR) website at www.kdor.ks.gov/apps/taxclearance/Default.aspx
