
Middle School Guidance Counselor
Anticipated Position: Middle School Guidance Counselor
Reports to: Middle School Principal
Qualifications:
- Valid State Department of Education licensure/certificate
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Assists with program planning. Identifies opportunities to enhance student learning.
- Keeps current with intervention design research and contributes to the collaborative development of strategies for at-risk students. pregnancy, self -esteem, substance abuse, etc.)
- Monitors student attendance and performance data. Intervenes with students struggling academically. Provides supervision of students as directed.
- Resolves problems that impede student learning. Identifies teaching techniques, interventions and aligned resources suited for each student.
- Monitors intervention efficacy. Recommends modifications needed to improve outcomes.
- Documents observations of students in classroom and other program settings.
- Investigates student concerns (e.g. abuse/ neglect, attendance, discrimination, domestic violence, emotional/ behavioral problems, poverty, pregnancy, self-esteem, substance-abuse, etc.)
- Conducts individual and group counseling. Helps students acquire/improve personal skills (e.g., accountability, communication, responsible behavior, self-confidence, etc.)
- Oversees a differentiated referral and intervention system (IAT) that allows staff/ parents to request an evaluation and/ or consultation for non-disabled students.
- Advocates for students. Observes student demeanor. Investigates/ reports atypical behavior.
- Helps students make appropriate choices and grow academically. Promotes creativity, cultural awareness, democratic values, ethical conduct, reflective problem-solving skills and self-reliance.
- Assists with drug/ harassment/ violence prevention and school safety programs.
- Oversee 504 compliance, plan development and implementation.
- Provides opportunities for all students to participate in an inclusive educational environment.
- Oversees the organization, security and accommodations for testing programs.
- Guide and assist student scheduling activities.
- Facilitates student learning activities that encourage teamwork and positive peer relationships.
- Facilitates student transitions between elementary, middle, and high schools.
- Guides students in the investigation of individualized educational, vocational, and personal goals.
- Coordinates and facilitates services with area agencies.
- Embody high ethical standards, integrity, and confidentiality in all professional conduct.
- Maintain a clear record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
- Demonstrate a passion and desire to inspire the students of Archbold Schools.
Starting Date: August 2025
Pay Scale: Per Salary Schedule, Based on Experience and Education Level
(0 Experience with Bachelor’s degree = $39,568 )
+ 10 Extended Days Approved Annually
