25-03055 Auditor for Special Investigations II
The Special Investigations Division has an opening for an Auditor for Special Investigations II position. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with strong writing and communication skills. As an Auditor for Special Investigations II, you will perform professional-level work in the investigation and enforcement of tax fraud and/or violation of revenue tax laws.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with conducting investigations related to individuals and businesses filing false tax returns and failing to file required tax returns
- Assist with gathering material, reviewing records, and conducting interviews to substantiate or refute the charges
- Assist with making recommendations and presenting results of investigations to department officials.
- Prepare reports for testifying before hearing officers, grand juries, or courts
- Work with law enforcement, Commonwealth Attorneys and County Attorneys
- Assist with performing field investigations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Additional/Supplemental information:
- Must successfully complete a background investigation including an FBI criminal history record check (fingerprint check).
- Must comply with all tax laws
- Mostly at a desk using a computer and telephone
- Some travel for training and education.
Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree (which includes twenty semester hours or thirty quarter hours in accounting).

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Four years of accounting, auditing, investigative, management, or computer science experience.
- Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Certification as Certified Public Accountant will substitute for the required education and three years of the required experience.
Working Conditions
Incumbents working in this job title perform duties in an office setting. Occasional travel may be required.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
