Intern Maintenance - Supervisor
Job Summary
This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience and leadership development for an individual interested in pursuing a career as a Maintenance Supervisor in a food manufacturing environment. The Maintenance Intern will work alongside experienced maintenance professionals, support preventive maintenance efforts, and gain exposure to supervision, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Primary Responsibilities
- Shadow and assist Maintenance Supervisor and Maintenance Manager in overseeing daily operations and maintenance activities.
- Support and help schedule preventive maintenance on equipment and machinery.
- Collaborate with Maintenance Mechanics to identify the best method to troubleshoot mechanical or electrical issues.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action planning following equipment failures by identifying contributing factors, analyzing trends and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
- Observe and support spare parts inventory, work order management, and equipment logs.
- Support inspections, testing, and maintenance of critical equipment as necessary in partnership with 3rd party(ies).
- Assist with coordination of outside contractors or vendors as needed.
- Gain exposure to company compliance standards (e.g., OSHA, GMP, and Food Safety) and industry best practices.
- Learn and apply principles of team leadership, safety-first practices, and shift communications.
- Follow all safety rules and practices to include the wearing of all essential personal protective equipment.
- Follow all food safety and personal hygiene practices.
- Perform other technical and general duties as required and requested in support of the Maintenance Department.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Post High School technical training/education in electrical systems, pneumatics/hydraulics, basic machinery/welding is required.
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree or certificate in Industrial Technology, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance Management, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience with maintenance in a food manufacturing environment preferred.
- Strong interest in maintenance operations, leadership, and team development.
- Intermediate understanding of tools, machinery, and/or maintenance software is required.
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills, with intermediate to advanced knowledge of Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- The ability to meet flexible and changing priorities and the ability to work under pressure a must.
- 80% of the time will be spent in a plant manufacturing environment walking, climbing stairs or ladders etc. and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- 20% of the time will be spent in a normal office environment at a desk working with a computer.
