Position Summary
The Human Resources Intern will provide essential support to the Human Resources department with a strong focus on Talent Acquisition and related HR functions. This position offers hands-on experience in a variety of HR areas including recruiting, onboarding, employee engagement, compliance, and training. The intern will play an active role in enhancing John S. Connor’s employer brand, supporting internal HR projects, and helping document key processes that support HR continuity and succession planning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the creation, review, and standardization of job descriptions across departments.
- Review resumes, screen applicants, and help coordinate interview scheduling with hiring managers.
- Support the onboarding process including preparing welcome materials, assisting with orientation, and monitoring task completion.
- Analyze recruiting strategies, outreach effectiveness, and the performance of job posting platforms.
- Identify and engage with universities and community organizations to build brand awareness and recruit local talent.
- Document and help refine HR processes and procedures, creating 'how-to' guides and succession planning resources.
- Support compliance and reporting efforts by reviewing current HR initiatives and ensuring adherence to internal policies and applicable labor laws.
- Assist with the development and delivery of training and development programs for employees.
- Provide support during employee transitions including offboarding documentation and coordination.
- Help maintain employee records, update HR databases, and ensure accurate filing of HR documents.
- Respond to general employee inquiries and provide administrative HR support as needed.
- Contribute to special HR initiatives including employee engagement, recognition and rewards, benefits review, internal communications, and implementation of new programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
- MUST currently be enrolled in, or have recently graduated from, an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree program in Human Resources, Psychology, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field.
- Interest in pursuing a career in Human Resources with a focus on talent development and workforce engagement.
- Familiarity with U.S. Labor Laws and HR best practices preferred.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office applications in a PC-based environment.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to interact effectively at all levels of the organization.
- Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Self-starter with a passion for learning and a proactive approach to problem solving.
- Located in the Greater Baltimore/Washington, D.C. area and available to commute to headquarters in Glen Burnie, MD as needed.
