Research and Development Intern
The We:
We are an edgy, established, independent production company that creates premium unscripted content, aka: reality and documentary television. Our clients include HGTV, Netflix, Discovery, Food, Nat Geo, Travel, Magnolia and E!/Bravo, among others.
The Gig:
We seek interns for our Research & Development team. This is a remote internship - you can be anywhere! You will report directly to Producers and undertake a variety of learning missions: casting, writing, editing, idea-having, research, participating in creative meetings, busting international spy rings, and bringing the all-important electricity to the synaptic firings of our collective creative brain. Want to know how a show goes from concept to commission? This internship demystifies that process. Please note, this is an internship for Spring 2025. Internship will start in January and go through the end of April, roughly.
The You:
Intelligent, enterprising, creative, curious, communicative. Have a broad palette of interests, a feel for pop culture, a nose for character and story. You need not have a formal background in media or production (English majors welcome), but it won't hurt if you know some basic editing software skills (Avid, Final Cut, Premiere, etc). It is vital that you can write, research, troubleshoot and excise the word ''can't'' from your vocabulary (at least during office hours).
Note: This is an unpaid internship for matriculating students, designed to further the intern's education and satisfy their program requirements. We wholeheartedly welcome those seeking an opportunity for college credit or pursuing a supervised practicum. We will need a letter from your college or university approving this internship. In addition, you must be able to commit 20-24 hours per week.
The To Apply:
Yeah, yeah, please send us the resume boasting about your college credentials and what experience and skills you have, links to any relevant sites / reels... but usually the thing that most impresses us is an original cover letter demonstrating you're the person who should be here. If you submit the same copy-and-paste cover letter you've sent to a hundred other internships, we probably will not respond. After all, this craft is about people and stories. So, person reading this: tell us your story. Make your cover letter count! Introduce us to your brain. Thrill us.
Before you submit your cover letter, please read the below carefully:
* At the top of your cover letter, please write ''I am a genuine human and my favorite book is ________ and my favorite album is __________'' and fill in the blanks.
You can submit your cover letter in a message to us or email it to abigail@wattpictures.com
