As a Data Scientist Intern on our Machine Learning Modeling Team, you will gain hands-on experience in developing and deploying advanced models that drive our fraud detection and prevention systems. You will work alongside a team of talented data scientists, engineers, and domain experts to solve complex problems and deliver impactful solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Model Development: Assist in designing, building, and optimizing machine learning models for fraud detection, risk assessment, and payment security.
- Data Analysis: Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) to uncover insights, identify trends, and inform model development.
- Feature Engineering: Support the development and implementation of innovative feature engineering techniques to enhance model performance.
- Model Deployment: Collaborate with engineering teams to deploy models into production environments and monitor their performance.
- Coding Skills: Utilize Python for data analysis, model development, and automation of data workflows, with guidance on version control using Git.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, DevOps, TechOps, product, and business stakeholders, to align data science initiatives with business goals.
- Documentation: Assist in maintaining clear and comprehensive documentation of models, processes, and results.
- Research: Stay up to date with the latest advancements in machine learning, fraud detection, and payment security to incorporate into Vesta’s solutions.
Qualifications
Required:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in data science and/or computer science, with an expected graduation date within the next year.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL (or similar query languages) for data manipulation, analysis, and model development.
- Familiarity with machine learning frameworks such as Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
- Understanding of statistical modeling, feature engineering, and model evaluation techniques.
- Strong problem-solving skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Meticulous, detail-oriented documentation skills.
Preferred:
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Matplotlib, Seaborn, Tableau).
- Familiarity or interest in learning about cloud platforms (e.g., Azure) and big data tools.
- Interest in fraud detection, risk modeling, or payment security.
- Contributions to academic projects or relevant coursework in machine learning and data science.
