Kubota Water and Environment USA Corporation (KWU) is seeking applicants for an Environmental Chemist specializing in per/poly-fluorylalkyl substances (PFAS) and contaminants of emerging concern (CEC) at the KUBOTA Water and Environment R&D Center USA located in Canton, OH. The position supports the strategic direction of the company for successful technological improvements and marketing. The Environmental Chemist will report to the General Manager of R&D. 

The primary function of this position is to be the primary PFAS and CEC expert for KWU. This entails studying the PFAS and CEC treatment markets as they pertain to water and wastewater treatment, operating pilot equipment to determine technological compatibility with the KUBOTA MBR, application engineering and possibly other work as it relates to the position.

The ideal candidate has a sound understanding of chemistry, specifically as it relates to PFAS compounds, CEC and water and wastewater treatment processes. A high degree of initiative and independent/creative thought is essential to our research. Knowledge and experience related to wastewater treatment and/or membrane bioreactor (MBR) processes is advantageous.

Responsibilities

This position will focus on PFAS-related research projects, technology piloting, PFAS market evaluation and business development.

  • Operating MBR, experimental pilot equipment or other technologies. 
  • Collaboration with Kubota Japan Research Department including presentation of data & reports. 
  • Experimental planning and design, wastewater treatment process design and modeling, data analysis and interpretation. 
  • Project management: capital planning, budget management and pilot system design.
  • Technical writing: summarizing results and writing reports, preparation of papers/presentations for conferences.
  • Traveling to conferences to present research, ensuring Kubota is well-represented and respected in the market. 
  • Establish good working relationships and collaborate with engineering consulting firms and/or other companies to conduct research projects; these may be held at other wastewater treatment plants. 
  • Conduct research projects at wastewater treatment plants utilizing KUBOTA MBR technology.

Ideal Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or M.S. in chemistry, environmental science or environmental engineering, with research experience in a PFAS or CEC-related capacity.
  • Knowledge/experience with wastewater/water sample collection and analysis.
  • Direct knowledge/experience of MBR systems or other wastewater treatment technology.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident in US.
