GIS Intern
Transect is seeking a dedicated GIS Intern to join our environmental team at our cutting-edge environmental due diligence software company. As a GIS Intern, you will play a pivotal role in updating, cleaning, and managing geospatial datasets across our platform. You will work closely with our experienced environmental specialists and cross-functional teams, ensuring the accuracy of our data to support environmental assessments and planning. This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in GIS, contribute to sustainable projects, and develop skills in environmental technology.
Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Science/Studies, Natural Resources, Geographic Information Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience with GIS and the ESRI platform (ArcGIS Pro) through academic coursework or prior internships is preferred.
- Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, proactive, and passionate about environmental protection. Basic programming knowledge (Python, SQL) is a plus.
Responsibilities:
- Updating and managing geospatial datasets, including wetlands, species, land use, infrastructure, and other key environmental and spatial features.
- Cleaning, organizing, and manipulating geospatial data from various federal, state, and local sources.
- Identifying, researching, and fixing broken or outdated links within the platform’s database.
- Researching relevant environmental regulations and permits.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve platform functionality and data workflows
This position will be a short-term, part-time, and remote unpaid internship, offering a flexible work environment with a supportive team culture.
