Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in education with appropriate subject area from an accredited college
or university
2. Appropriate State of Ohio teaching certifications/license
3. Meet the applicable requirement of a "highly qualified" teacher under the No Child Left
Behind Act within the requirements
4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of
Education may find appropriate
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of academic area and teaching methodology
Ability to work effectively with others
Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in
writing
Effective and active listening skills
Organizational and problem solving skills, record keeping skills and classroom
management skills
Basic knowledge of all other subject matter
Experience working with children
Training in varied instructional design
Computer/word processing skills, grade machine, Email and Internet
Reports To: Building Principal
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be conducted according to the approved evaluation system.

Job Goal: To use teaching skills and knowledge to instruct students in subject areas for which the
teacher is responsible, so as to achieve growth in student learning. Facilitate learning by
identifying and understanding individual characteristics of all students taught and
present subject matter accordingly; manage the classroom by organizing it to stimulate
learning and to foster discipline; make professional decisions about what to teach and
across subject areas based on available curriculum guidelines and State Proficiency
Standards
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Policies / Procedures
1. Follows the policies of the Board of Education, administrative regulations, and school rules.
2. Assists the administration in implementing all procedures and rules governing student life and
conduct, develops reasonable classroom behavior and procedures for the classroom, and
maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
3. Maintains respect at all times for confidential information
4. Maintains accurate and complete student attendance and achievement records, as well as other
school/district records.
5. Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities
Students / Safety
6. Safeguards students' health and safety while under his/her supervision.
7. Provides additional help to students as needed outside of the regular instructional time.
8. Effectively manages the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain a good learning
environment.
9. Identifies student needs, and cooperates with other professional staff in assessing and helping
students solve health, attitude, and learning problems
10. Disciplines students when necessary
11. Provides guidance and counsel to the students which will promote their welfare and their proper
educational development
12. Ensures students are learning all subject material by regular evaluation which includes testing
or quizzing on a regular basis
13. Serves as a role model for students and staff in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as
responsible, intelligent human beings.

14. Observes ethics of the teaching profession; exhibits professional behavior, emotional
stability, and sound judgment.
15. Attends meetings and in-services as required.
16. Acts as a mentor for teachers new to the district when requested and agreed upon.
17. Participates on building committees when requested and agreed upon.
18. Acts as department chairperson when requested and agreed upon.
19. Supervises student teachers when requested and agreed upon.
20. Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relationships.
21. Attends professional growth seminars, workshops, etc. to keep current on relevant
issues.
22. Works closely with administrators as part of development teams to discuss and
implement new practices such as “team” teaching, semester projects, etc.
23. Participates in the intervention assistance team meetings when required to do so.
Communication / Public Relations
24. Communicates with parents, other teachers and the principal about student progress.
25. Provides time to students and parents for educational-related purposes outside the
instructional day.
26. Interacts in a positive manner with staff, students and parents.
27. Promotes good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation.
28. Notifies parents and administration if student is not meeting classroom goals.
29. Responds to routine questions and requests in a timely, appropriate manner.
Curriculum / Instruction
30. Assists in the determination of appropriate curriculum, materials, supplies, and texts in
cooperation with the Executive Director of Instructional Services and building principals.
31. Follows the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined in the Board of
Education-approved courses of study.
32. Teaches according to the state standards, using approved texts and supplemental
instructional resources.
33. Follows approved schedules.
34. Prepares complete lesson plans in advance of their being needed.
35. Provides complete lesson plans for substitute.
36. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the
maturity and interests of students.
37. Demonstrates knowledge of subject matter and presents clear complete and accurate
explanations utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable to the level of
learners.
38. Teaches new concepts and facilitates different activities enabling students to learn in
different ways.
39. Acts as teacher, facilitator and information source in subject area specialty.
40. Distributes homework assignments.
41. Evaluates the students using sound instructional practices.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
42. Serves on building district committees.
43. Attends meetings and in-services as required per negotiated agreement.
44. Refers attendance, health, and psychological/emotional problems to Principal and/or
Guidance Counselor.
45. Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Principal and/or Executive Director of
Instructional Services.
Additional Working Conditions
Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
Occasional interaction with unruly students and parents
Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions
Occasional evening work
Occasional travel (e.g., attending workshop outside of district)
