International Trade Intern
The Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA), in collaboration with the Western United States Agricultural Trade Association (WUSATA), is seeking a highly motivated intern to support international trade initiatives. This internship provides hands-on experience in agricultural trade, business development, and marketing. Interns will assist with outreach, program implementation, and data management to enhance Nevada's presence in global markets.
Key Responsibilities:
- International Outreach: Assist in planning and organizing global marketing activities to promote Nevada agricultural products worldwide.
- Data Management: Update and ensure the accuracy of company details in the WUSATA database.
- Company Engagement: Conduct outreach and recruit Nevada and Western companies for international marketing programs.
- Content Development: Write success stories featuring Nevada businesses benefiting from WUSATA programs.
- Program Promotion: Actively market activities and resources offered by NDA and WUSATA.
Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To:
- Identify and develop a research project related to international trade in food and/or agriculture in Nevada.
- Assist with the agency's training and outreach for export development.
- Assist in marketing state and WUSATA programs to the Nevada food and agriculture industry.
- Assist in project development to address industry barriers to export.
- Assist in the management of ongoing export development projects.
- Coordinating the creation and outreach of export trade leads to the industry.
- Assist in updating exporters' email lists and internet listings.
- Assist in recruiting for ongoing and upcoming WUSATA assistance programs.
- Query international data and prepare reports.
- Assist in creating informational materials for international customers.
- Develop success stories and case studies highlighting the impact of WUSATA initiatives on Nevada agriculture.
- Assist with data entry, market analysis, and preparation of trade reports.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Enrollment in a post-secondary institution, with preference for students majoring, or with a degree, in an Agriculture related field with knowledge or experience in international trade/business or an International Business/International Relations degree with knowledge or experience in agriculture.
General: The candidate must be able to work a minimum of 8 hours per week up to 20 hours per week maximum. For work schedules of less than 20 hours/week the work schedule in terms of time of day and days worked are flexible.Candidate must have their own transportation to/from Sparks.
Skills:
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in verbal and written communication (email and professional outreach).
- Adept in customer service, program implementation, and using computer systems.
- Comfortable with cold calling, outreach, and relationship-building efforts.
- Experience with data analysis and research.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM tools.

Additional Information:
Salary: $18.OO per hour, no benefits – this is an independent contractor position.
