Position Type: Internship (Part-time)
Program Dates: June 24 – August 21, 2025
Compensation: $17.50/hour, plus Metro benefits and a daily lunch stipend
Organization Overview
The Family Online Safety Institute is an international, non-profit organization that works to make the online world safer for kids and their families. FOSI convenes leaders in industry, government and the non-profit sectors to collaborate and innovate new solutions and policies in the field of online safety. Through research, resources, events and special projects, FOSI promotes a culture of responsibility online and encourages a sense of digital citizenship for all. FOSI brings together and highlights the best safety messages, tools and methods to reach parents, children and caregivers. We continually expand our efforts to educate and inform governments, regulators, industry and media around the world on a balanced approach to online safety.
Internship Overview
FOSI is seeking a Summer Trust & Safety Intern to support our Programming and Policy teams. This position offers hands-on experience in policy research, resource development, event coordination, and stakeholder engagement. The intern will play a key role in tracking legislation, assisting with FOSI’s digital safety tools for parents and caregivers, and contributing to the organization’s broader trust & safety initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Policy and Legislative Support
- Assist in monitoring and updating the progress of online safety legislation at both state and federal levels.
- Analyze trends in online safety legislation and synthesize information from thought leaders in the field.
- Draft written statements and policy briefs as needed.
- Support the Policy Team in tracking legislative and regulatory developments by managing databases and ensuring timely updates.
Research and Reporting
- Research various online safety policy topics and current events to support FOSI’s initiatives.
- Compile and present findings to the team, offering insights and recommendations.
- Maintain databases of core people to know in the online safety field, blog topics, conference titles, and speakers.
- Develop a list of federal and state resources, including contacts and bills.
Programming and Resource Development
- Assist in updating and developing downloadable resources for parents and caregivers on popular apps, platforms, and games
- Collaborate with the Research and Program Specialist to maintain timelines and project workflows
- Support the Public Affairs Specialist with graphic design and visual formatting using Canva
- Track and report on trust & safety news, emerging tools, and youth digital trends
Qualifications
- Current undergraduate or graduate student with an interest in online safety, tech policy, or digital well-being
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Comfortable working independently and in a collaborative team environment
- Proficient in Google Workspace and Canva
- Enthusiastic about nonprofit work, online safety, and digital literacy
