Overview:
Major League Drone Racing (MLDR), a premier professional drone racing sports entertainment league, is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Main Stage Video Camera Operator to join our broadcast and live streaming production crew. This role is responsible for capturing dynamic, high-energy footage of pilots, teams, stage activities, and live drone racing action for both broadcast and streaming platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
• Operate a broadcast-quality video camera to capture all stage activity, including pilot introductions, drone launches, crowd reactions, award ceremonies, and live host interactions.
• Track and follow fast-moving characters (pilots, crew, performers) on stage in real time, ensuring smooth and engaging coverage.
• Listen and respond to the Broadcast Director via intercom (comms) to receive live instructions, shot changes, and cue adjustments during the event.
• Frame compelling, creative shots that enhance the entertainment experience for viewers both on the big screen and online.
• Coordinate with the production team and other camera operators to ensure continuous coverage and seamless transitions between segments.
• Ensure camera equipment is set up, tested, and operating correctly before showtime.
• Troubleshoot and resolve basic camera and equipment issues on the fly.
• Contribute to the visual storytelling of the event by capturing reaction shots, emotional moments, and key highlights that define the MLDR experience.
• Remain aware of race flow, pacing, and pilot lineups to anticipate shot opportunities and movement.
• Maintain professionalism and focus in a high-energy, fast-paced live sports entertainment environment.
Required Skills & Experience:
• 2+ years of experience operating video cameras in a live event, sports, or broadcast environment.
• Strong ability to follow live direction through comms and respond quickly under pressure.
• Proven track record of capturing smooth, well-framed shots of live action and fast-moving subjects.
• Familiarity with ENG and/or broadcast-level camera systems.
• Experience working in team-based production crews.
• Ability to travel and work flexible hours including weekends, evenings, and load-in/load-out days.
• Comfortable working on your feet for extended periods and navigating crowded or active event spaces.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with sports entertainment or esports-style events is a plus.
• Knowledge of FPV (first-person view) drone racing is a bonus but not required.
• Multi-camera live production experience is a strong advantage.
Compensation:
Day rate or project-based compensation (commensurate with experience)
