Library Media, Technology Assistant (Secondary), 1.0 FTE - Petaluma High School

8 hours per day 

Work Hours: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM (M,T,W,Th,F)

 Monday - Friday 

While School is in Session 

Successful bilingual or American Sign Language applicant will be paid a monthly stipend of $96. This stipend will be pro-rated for positions that are less than 40 hours per week.

SUMMARY Under direction of the site administrator, to serve as an assistant to certificated library personnel, assists in the supervision of students in the library and relieves certificated library personnel of clerical detail; and other related job-related duties as required. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other job-related duties may be assigned. Assists in the preparation of purchase orders and records related to purchases and acquisitions; processes incoming library material for circulation; produces a variety of library related documents including reports, bibliographies, forms, schedules and letters; prepares lists of overdue books and notifies students of overdue books; checks books in and out of circulation; receives payment for library fines; assists in periodic inventory of library materials; processes incoming textbooks for use; assists students in the use of the library; works with student library assistants; assists the librarian in additional related duties as requested. 

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Knowledge of standard library practices, terminology, and procedures; inventory and record keeping procedures; correct English usage, spelling, punctuation and arithmetic. Knowledge of a variety of computer software. Ability to assist students in the selection of library materials; maintain discipline among students using the library; keep accurate records; train and supervise student assistants in library practice, terminology and procedures; establish and maintain cooperative working relations with teachers, students, and others contacted in the course of the work; follow oral and written instructions. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Some library experience desired. Must be a high school graduate or the equivalent. Must either have 48 college semester units, or an AA degree, or pass a paraprofessional test meeting the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to perform basic mathematical skills including fractions, ratios, and percentages. 

REASONING ABILITY Ability to choose among a limited number of alternatives in solving routine problems.
