Summer Media Assistant

We are currently hiring a Summer Media Assistant to support our communications and office teams.
Under the supervision of a year-round camp administrator or the year-round media assistant, the Summer Media Assistant is an office support position that includes the following duties: assisting in communication with camper families through various forms of written and oral communication, creating and managing content for all forms of media, as well as assisting with general office duties.
Transportation from San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, Pleasant Hill, San Ramon
We are a day camp and most summer staff drive to our camp sites in Lafayette or Moraga. If the daily commute to Lafayette/Moraga is not feasible for you but taking the bus could work, please apply and we will consider your situation.
Requirements
- Familiarity with general Windows-based programs: web browser, email, word processing
- Comfortable photographing events and organizing large sets of digital images for online sharing or archiving
- Familiarity with DSLR and/or digital mirrorless cameras
- Familiarity with video recording and video editing a plus
- Know the basics of photography including exposure, lighting, and composition
- Able to do basic photo manipulation using programs like Canva, Photoshop, Lightroom
- Able to learn computer programs used at Roughing It, including: blog programs, the Roughing It website, the Roughing It Portal
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and accurately
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to perform general office duties: filing, answering the phone, word processing, printing, copying, mailing, organizing, etc.
- Driver’s license and excellent driving record
- Ability to follow all administrative, office, personnel policies and dress code
Experience
- Has work experience with all forms of media: digital, print, and social media.
Responsibilities
- Create, produce, and edit media content including emails, newsletters, website/blog updates, videos, slideshows, and social media posts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
- Photograph daily camp activities and events, capturing high-quality images that reflect the camp experience
- Manage and update Camper Caboodle (internal photo/news platform), organize photo and content systems, and edit media using Photoshop, Lightroom, and video editing tools
- Support marketing efforts by creating/updating flyers, brochures, ads, and assisting with mailings and campaign distributions
- Assist with general office operations: filing, data entry, desktop publishing, organizing supplies, copying, and supporting sales, marketing, and personnel teams
Job Details
- 2025 Camp Season: Mon-Fri, June 16, 2025 through August 8, 2025
- Camp Hours: The camp day is 9:00am-3:00pm, and staff help with site prep or act as bus counselors before and after. Most positions are 43–47 hours/week
- Location: Our main camp site is at the Lafayette Reservoir. Our swimming site is at the Soda Aquatic Center in Moraga. Media Assistants commute to their work site unless they are a bus counselor who meets the bus at its first stop
