Junior Formulator

Summary

This role is an introductory level to the Formulation function, with a pathway to becoming a Formulator to respond to Lead time request and facilitate required stock build. The role provides a supporting function to the Formulators to blend and test proposed formulations on a small scale prior to transfer to manufacturing scale. The Junior Formulator will be trained on Quality Control classical and instrumental analysis and will also develop and maintain a library of key ingredients to support the small-scale formulation of proposed formulations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Make up trial blends accurately and test against the specification in a timely manner and in line with the prescribed KPI.
  • Independent analysis of materials using predominantly Gas Chromatography, HPLC, UPLC, odor analysis, refractive index, optical rotation and density or other techniques as prescribed by the material specification.
  • Participate in organoleptic evaluation of the products, as necessary.
  • Prepare tasting solutions and arrange for a representative number of individuals to carry out analysis as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain a library of core stock items which are used frequently and ensure we have representative samples within the library which can be used for small scale representative formulations.
  • Request representative samples of inventory from the Inventory team to enable a formulation to be completed and to maintain the library.
  • Utilize Treatt LIMS systems to help trial blends keep to their assigned bulk sheet days.
  • Utilize JDE to locate inventory to support requests to the Inventory team.
  • Ensuring that the working area in the laboratory is maintained in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Maintain your own, and other staff’s health and safety always, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Undergo training in areas specific to Treatt plc business as required.
  • Perform other tasks that may be required from time to time.

Education & Training

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, food science, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in laboratory environments is a plus but not required.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Familiarity with quality control processes and ISO 9001 standards is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Expected hours: 40 per week
